This was two days of half-miles with a $1000 purse for each day .. It payed S100 to win a class, all classes, with $65 for second and $35 for third. This was extremely popular, especially with the 1l!5cc and l!OOcc riders who don't usually get that much prize money. The Open class was a bit hairy too . On Saturday night C.D . Manin , Scott Adams and Bill Myers were the onl y ones left on the front row of the fina l as the other nine were on the penalty row for creeping. Early heat winner Rusty Chaddock withdrew from the final as he had injured his knee when he caught his skid shoe in a chug hole. Steve Lewis took the lead followed by Myers. but two laps later Adams' rear . wheel gave away and he hit the wall with the former Bruce Townsent Yam . There wasn't a single spoke left in the wheel and the young Oklahoman did a super job of getting the bike upright and didn't touch one of the nine- rider traffic jam behind him. Lewis and Myers began to swap the lead back and forth as John Fike began to move upward . Myers won as Fike passed both Manin and Lewis for second. The next day Adams ran off with the win over Lewis and Dexter Jones . Bull Haynie won both days in the 1l!5cc class. but the Sunday race had a battle for second between Jimmie O'Dell. Jr. and Renne Kennedy, but it ended on the front straightaway when the two got together and Kennedy fell off very hard . On Saturday Haynie look the lead until Phil Culver got it on the back chute. Haynie took it back only 10 lose it 'again to Cul ver -. Haynie got it again for keeps and tw~ laps lat er Culver blew his motor. O'Dell and Kennedy had a race-long battle for second with Kennedy getting it. Terry Francis read the flagman perfectly and got the jump on the rest of th~ 200cc and won big on Saturday. but on Sunday Renee Kennedy got up from her high-speed getoff in the 125's 10 win the 200cc with a display of heavy horsepower. Dave Bradley and his Harley Staracer made shambles of the 250cc class both days. On Saturday he led .Rusty Chaddock and Scott Adams (Yam ) off the line. By lap two Adams had taken second from Chaddock and began 10 close on Bradley. but on lap seven he blew coming out of turn four . At the while flag Steve Lewis shot by Dave Coats to take third . 00 t"O') - 1-4 QJ ..0 o .... u o . Results 12Sc:c: 1. Bun HlIynie lYoml: 2. R..- Kennedy 1S .lVoml; 3. Jimmie O'Dell. Jr .
