AMA releases '79 National . MXrider numbers WEST~ RVILLE. OH , OCT. 2 With the change requiring all AMA p ro fessional motocross riders to declare which National class they would ride in 1978 , a new num bering system has been esta blished to assign numbers for 1979. Each rider in the top twenty in each class (125 .250, and 500cc) will be assigned two numbers. One number will be issued to his class standing: di second number will be issued per his National Point standing. Riders will use the second number when not competing in their chosen class. For example: Broc Glover. the 125cc campion. will wear #1 when com~ting in the 125cc Nationals and will wear #2 when competing in stadium. Tl-ans .AMA. and/or special events. Listed below are the top twenty riders in each class and their numbers for 1979. ~ BO? Hannah will carry the 11 plate In Supercross events as well as the 250cc Nationals. Team Yamaha 'ca ptured the first four our -of-class numoers. • In out-of-class numbers , two riders retain their 1978 numbers. Mike Bell will ,!gain carry 139 and Denny Swartz is again #33 .
