Mike Baldwin ran away with both legs of the
10th and final round in the . Formula 750
World Championship series at Mosport Park.
500cc World . Champion Kenny Roberts'
finished a stro ng second ahead
of Yvon DuHamel in a race that
was detuned by the dea th of
Avru m Gudelsky in a qualifying

heat th e previous day. Roberts lost his
bid to become 750cc World Cha m pion
as Venezuela's John ny Cecotto p laced
fifth to game r enough points to edge
Roberts in the final standings , 97 ยท92 .
The weekend of racing got off to a
poor start on Saturday as Steve Baker ,
last year's 750cc World Champion .
crashed ha rd in turn two during 750c c
q ualifying heats. Baker got sideways in
the turn and t hen hit t he wall . and
was still on t he track as Conrad Ur ba nowski came by, runni ng over
Baker's left leg and breaki ng it.
Urbanowski re mai ned 'u p righ t. but
Avram Gud elski was nex t into the corner. He apparently hit gas or oil laid
down by Baker a nd struck the wall in
an area wh ich Baker had swept clean
of tires . Gudelsky d ied soon after im pact with the concrete wa II. as Baker
also suffered a fractured left wrist.
Next on the scene was Derodragues of
Bel g iu m , who h it some of th-e
wreckage on the track and dislocated
his left hip in a fall whick took a la rge
ch unk out of his rea r wheel. He was
taken to the Osha wa General Hospita l

along with Baker.
Sa turd a y evening, the riders held-a
meeting in which they aired various
grievances , incl uding poor flag
locations ,
ins ufficient
ambulance
response time , inadequate deployment
of hay bales alo ng ha rd barriers , and
dirt and debris on the t rack. After
Mosport officials agreed to place more
haybales at d angerous locations a nd
deploy flagmen in m ore visible
positions, t he riders agreed to race

on Sunday .

The track was still a bit damp from
a m orning rain and th e temperatures
were in the low fift ies as the riders
lined up for the start . Fast qualifier
