Central Pipeline One of Colorado's best. Arlo Englund I Englund dominates Co lorado crossin' Aztec 500cc Experts hit the first turn in one massive pack. By Dennis Larratt COLORADO SPGS.. CO , AUG . 20 I Arlo Englund . of Colorado Springs and riding for Vickery Yamaha . was awesome Suriday at Aztec Raceways . 1\ rio continued to amaze people as he ; brought a bike for each Expert"c)ass, and proceeded to win six straight motos , " The I25cc Experts took off with Allen Smi th and Gary Duncan battling for the lead. with Englund and Albert Firestine working through the pack. By the halfwa y point , Firestine had gained th e lead, followed by Englund . Duncan and Smith. but 'a destroyed wh eel dropped Firestine way back. The second moto saw Englund and Duncan fini sh 1·2 again with Steve Ko lias pulling a stro ng third , Englund got the lead of the fir st 250cc Expert moto on the first - la p , never to be . cha llenged. Mike Knupp and Craig Lane followed a ways ba ck to p ick up second and third respectively. The second moto was highlighted by George Cozzetti , J r .'s b est ride ever. Cozzett i got the holeshot and led for a coup le la ps until Englund and Boo Stichter got by , with Cozzetti hanging it out until his engine welded itself up . I Englund won both Open Expert motos handily as Bob Moore rode consistently to finish second overall. Stichter came from a half lap down to sixth a t" the fin ish in the second moto to edge Dwight Catalano for third overa II. c: • I A pack of riders fly into the firt turn at B&B Raceway's KMSA classic, where Eric Batman left his mark. Eric Bat man dominates KMSA classic By Larry Vern Chv atal GREAT BEND. KS. SEPT. 3 Eric Batman won four Expert motos in a row to score first overall in the 250cc and Open Classes at B&B Raceway. Eric • 46 had little trouble capturing the Open class by going wire to wire in both heats. The first 250cc Expert moto had Dave Brack in the lead , with Batman running second . Brack led until the ha lfway point when he was d ism ounted' in an over the bars cras h. Da ve failed to return to ac tio n a fter receiving med ical a ttention . Batman took com ma nd to win -t he hea t and went on to corral the cham pionship. J im Maguim , Kevin Waggon er . a nd G reg Romine waged wa r on each ot her and the field in th e 250cc Junior class. Waggoner. th is yea r's current po int leader. left t he st art ing gate in wha t seem ed to be slow motion , while Jim Maguirn rocket ed into t he lead , Waggone r finall y got on track , moving from mid-pack to second ' in the first half of the moto. Romine . now in thi/d, followed on Kevin 's back door in chase of the streaking J im Maguim . Waggoner closed to a bikelength and worked a slick pass on B&B's side sweeper. Romine made a bid for second on the last lap, going down 'hard in th e process. In moto two . Maguim again na iled th e early lead as Waggoner and Rom ine wer e caught in a cr owd. Kevin worked a neat p ass to move into seco nd . but Maguim was long gon e. Alan Mu irhea d was th e O pen J u nior champ ' a fter a' tussle with 'Howard Butts. Alan won moto one. wh ile Howard fell and fin ished fourth . Butts grabbed th e lead in moto two and refused to give it awa y. Mu irhead supplied plenty of pleasure , but ended up second in the heat wh ich was good enough for an overall victory. David Kleusch was soundly beaten by Dan Slezzer in moto on e of the Mini class .
