Yamaha motocross 12 Goin g into the motocross , it appeared th a t Gennai had the po ints lead ; se veral others were within striking distance . Hannah pull ed th e hol eshot off Saddleback's rear starting gate. but was in third behind G illman and Winert at th e conclusi on of th e first lap . Staten , Eiersted t , Gibson and Lac key were in pursuit of the leaders . T wo laps into the Sfl-minute moto, Hannah was dropped to fourth by Sta ten. The Hurricane rega ined th e position two laps later. . The leading tri o of Gillman , Weinert a nd Hannah qu ickly left the pa ck and set up their own exciti ng battle for th e lead . Eiersted t dropped out on lap nine when th e percock pulled aw ay from the ga s tank . Staten was still fourt h and he was leading Gi bson . La ck ey, W a rd , Mosie r , Se mics, Stacka b le . Hat el ey, Glove r a nd Gen na i. On th e 12th la p . Ha n nah nosed by Weinert on a fall -away right hander past the finish line . Still the group stayed tight as Hannah tried a variet y of lines to get past Gillman , Four laps later , Hannah pa ssed Gillman on a fast stretch to take th e lead. Weinert follow ed suit by stuffing it under Gillman in a tight right turn. Stackable wa s out with a broke n connecting rod. Staten and Gibson still held fourth and fifth , but Mosier had worked his way a round La cke y and Ward . Serni cs al so se t Ward ba ck a posit ion . Hateley , Glover (who' d stalled once and fall en once) and Roesel er tra iled th e " Flying Freck le ." Weinert sai d afte r th e ra ce that he was looking for a whi te flag . T here wasn 't one . Seconds aft er th e Hurricane too k th e chec kered flag , Gillman put a su rp rise move o n Weinert in th e final turn to tak e second pla ce a few feet in front of th e J ammer. Beh in d the top t hree wer e Sta ten , Gibso n , Mosier , La ck ey, Se mics , Ward and Hateley. Ha nna h and Wei nert ended up in a l52 .point t i e that was brok en by Hannah's two wins . For his victory , Han nah recived S I O,OOO, wh ich he will give 10 th e Muscu lar Dyst rop hy Foundation, and a brand new Subaru Brat truck : which he said he will give to his sister. . . Weinert , though su rel y disappointed, felt his strong showing will gi ve him a boost heading into the Trans·AMA Seri es as well as signaling a comeback after two mediocre yea rs, " I know Hannah's not going to sleep for a while ." said the Jammer during the trophy presentation held in near darkness . Weinert received $4 ,500. Hateley was onl y three points off the pa ce and his th ird in th e po ints was good for $2 ,000 . Staten, with 142 , was fourth ahead of Genna i, ' Ward , H ocking , Eierst edt , La ckey and Mosier .
