Res ults McConnell, Shoemaker win at AM£ Dunes MX 'nalan By T om cor ley •VAL EN CIA . CA . AUG . 13 Most of the riders who are active in racing at Indian Dunes seem to a ppreciate the nighttime motocross events that the Ameri can Motocross Enterprises has been hosting on Friday nights . The daytime events. such as this one. are as good as ever except for th e fact that th e sun has been really scorching lately. In roday's AME MX on the famous Interntional track the parti cipation was down a tad for th is reason . One advantage for some of the ride rs was that the ra ce was over by 3:00 p ,m , wh ich meant that they d id not have to wa it until th e ea rly evening befor e th eir next mo ta was read y to fire off. T he firs t ba ttl e of th e day started off as a m ini cycle event as usual. One of th e winningest people in th e Min is a nd in AME has got to be you ng Pa t McConnell , McConnell. on his Scott'S Scooters Yamaha . had a small class to fac e up to but came out of it with a no t he r huge first place t roph y. Pat hooked the win in each mota over George Curnutt (Yam) . One of the best turnouts in any single class was seen in th e 250cc Pro ' competition. T here were 27 original . sign -ups and five took payback cash with them . Former Mini star Bob by Jo nes is fantastic o n a Honda CR250R and he proved this by besti ng every one in the first mota ahead of a hauling Mike Shoemaker a nd Mike Brown , Shoemaker was the man to beat in the final second mota though. and had an excellent lead over Tracy Oswell and Mike Brown gunned it t hrou gh in third once again . A 2-1 score gave Shoemaker the overall win and the biggest cash prize . " Flying" Mike MINI J R: 1. John Brouillett e lYaml; 2. Pat W alsh (Yam); 3. The only alternative to use was a flag start and th is worked all right. Still , there were a co u ple of problems with one ~uy jumping the flag a nd being disqualified whi le another punched the starter! Overall it was an excellent night though. and the hotsh oes were out in full force beca use it was a nother C MC points night. The 125cc Pro class was normal with the same participants trying to track down the weekly hero of this class. Todd Peterson .
