T o aid in your decision . . I submit th ese facts : I am a 21 -year AMA member. Served four years as AMA Congressman from Dist rict 37 and was a lte rna te for six yea rs previous to that . As Congressman . held positi on s of Ch a irman of th e Pul ic Rel at ions Committee .fo r tw o yea rs a nd was a p point ed Cha irman of a Special T ask Fore.. for reorgan izar ion of th e AMA a t the 1975 Congress. It was ou t of th is com mi tt ee th at the rec om menda tion was made to in crease th e number of Class A T rustees from one to three. In 1977 , the Congress recommended to ~ he Board that that membership be Increased to a n eq ua l number with that of Indust ry {C lass B) members , and ele ct ed four o f its number to re p rese nt th em on th e Boa rd . I a tten ded all Board Meetings held during the year and also served as appointee to an ad hoc committee for re -structuring of the Board of Trustees . The splitting of the nation into six Regions with a Class A Trustee from each area was exactl y as I proposed last fal l. . I am involved in both dirt and road riding and rated Expert by District 37 Sports Committee. Involvement on a club a nd District level has been over 20 yea rs. including over 10 years on the Boa rd of D irectors of th e Sports Committee. Professionally. my major involvement is in design and advert ising , public rela t ions and market ing. I submi t th at th e t rack In an effort to heIp reduce the shortage of qualified motorcycle mechanics in southern California , Golden West College in Huntington Bea ch has a n nounced the development of a new career program in motorcycle technology to begin this co mi ng semeste r on Sept. II . 1978 . A four semester ce rt ific ate program has been set up to gi ve the stud ent th e necess a ry skills to enter th e job market as a qu alified motorcycle service technician upon completion of the program . Th e course has been designed to supply the stu dent with ent ry -level skills after the first semester so he may also ea rn units of credit for work expe rience. The program is set up to give a student the ability to perform all the functions of th e service personnel from tune-ups to complete overhauls of all components, The student will be schooled in the proper diagnostic troubl eshooting procedures for mechanical. carburetor and electrical malfunctions , In addition to the regular duties of the motorcycle mechanic. the student will gain a knowledge of both service department and parts department procedures. An added bonus for those students completing the program will be the choice of attending a number of fac tory service schools upon receipt of his certificate. The advantage of this is that the student will enter the job market with the lat est models fresh in his mind as an added incentive to a prospective employer. For those who m ight be interested. there is a mistake in the printing of the fall schedule. U n d e r Motorcycle Technology 053. the prerequisites are listed as Motorcycle Tech 052 or "em p loyed motorcycle mechanic. " In addition to this was su pposed to be "or previous motorcycle repair courses. day or evening. junior college or high school; or permission of the instructor." Fall semester begins Monday. Sept.
