But it-was good racing on a well-prepared track . Hank Spaulding also announced that he and the Texas group are closer to the state team challenge motocross that will , have a $1.500 purse. A date and location are not yet set. WeS Kluckner, who should end up KMSA number one at the end of the .season. won the I25cc Junior class both days. but didn't win all the . motos. In Saturday's first rnoto, William Cook took the lead over H.A. Spaulding and Kluckner , but Wes took 'second o~ lap five by the to.wer. With two laps to go . Romine moved up on Erichsen and they went at it wheel to wheel. side by side; down to the flag where Erickson won by half a length. Romine won the last rnoto. , Tim Schultz won his first overall as a n Expert with a solid performance in the 250ccs . He has only been an Expert for less than a month and he had to battle off repeated challenges from Jay Horn to win. He took the lead in the first moto Saturday on lap three. but Horn closed the gap and battled him down to th e wire. The next day it was a not her Wichita-area 38 flyer. AUG. 18 Mike Erickson raced ·t h e .afternoon at Stockton, Kansas; and then motored the 200 miles to arrive at 'Eagle Speedway for the evening races just as practice was ending.' And lie made a sweep of things, except for the 125cc heat where he fought it out with Dave Coats and Jimmie O 'Dell , Jr. all the 'wa y with Coats barely winning. But Erickson led the final all th e way with O'Dell and Coats battling until Coat s feel in turn two on th e fourth lap, giving third to Mike Parker. Mel Fueling won the first 250cc heat , but O 'Dell and Nick Hu ston closed the gap on him. Erickson won the next heat with a big lead over Coates. In the final it was Dan Jackson leading Huston. Erickson and O'Dell off the line. but on lap three Erickson took second and two laps later he took the lead and went on to win . Coats moved up and took advantage of some lapped riders to move into second at the end. Erickson also won the trophy dash with ease as he took the lead quickly and went on to win. Roger Sterling took the holes hot in the Open final. but Dan Jacobson tried to pass on the outside going into turn three and fel~off. sliding into the wall. The red flag came out for a restart. Jacobson got mad at Sterling for some reason and the restart found Jacobson parking his big Triumph .and switching to his 250cc. Nobody said anything and the race was on. Blackburn took the lead over Erickson and Sterling. but by lap three Sterling was in the lead and Blackburn fell in turn one. Holub moved up to second. Results SPEEDWAV: 1. Jimm" O·DeIi. Burke doubles at Flint Hills.MX By Dick Ainsworth DELEVAN, KS, AUG . 20 Another super turnout of rider's .and fans attended Sunday's KMSA Bonus Points race by the Flint Hills Cycle Club on another wellcond itioned Steve Dix track. Besides th e bonus points, the Experts rac ed for a tot al purse of $432 while th e Juniors ra ced for three -foot trophies. September 24th will be the $1 ,000 purse for Experts and large trophies for Juniors . Joe Burke drifted out from Pittsburgh. Kansas. and won all four motes he started. In the first 125cc Expert moto he. rocketed to the lead over Paul Hoover. Jeff Russell and ' Mike Dorsey . Tim Schultz crashed at the start. but got up to sixth as Jay Horn: who had a poor start. sliced his way towards the front. Burke opened it up as Ward Wiebe took over fourth and Hom and Schultz fought over fifth with Schultz winning. In the _last moto, Wiebe took the lead but in turn five Burke shot by as Roger Deckard found himself at the back. fighting his way to the front . On the second lap he passed Russell for , fourth. but Schultz moved in on him while Dorsey passed Wiebe for second. By lap six Schultz and Deckard were swapping positions until Deckard fell. jumped back up to sixth, then Schultz pulled off with mechanical woe . Burke , pulled the holeshot in the first 250cc Expert moto over Paul Hoover and Brian Layton. Layton quickly took second as Mike Dorsey took third. Barry Holem soon moved up to take second in some daring riding at the end. In the last moto Holem got the holeshot and led a lap until Burke got by and began to open it up. Layton now had to get by Holem to get second overall. but got sideways in a turn and stalled, ' letting Dorsey by.
