J ack Edison was th e first moto winner with th e d ecision be!ng a five-way on e a t the checke red a na th e second moto was a four-way affair without Edison , who wou nd up fifth a nd seco nd ove ra ll while Ron Beardsley won it, despite his fifth in the firs t m ow . A pair of fourt hs went for third overall spot for Da n Rey and Ken Hopk ins took fourth wit h a 9·2 overa ll cou nt. . R ick y Fei g e l ou t -pointed Se a n Groth e for t he 100cc N ov ice sports m a n with a 2·1 over Grotheer's 1·3 . A mi xed bag of t ricks was the co m bine d Ol d Timers a nd Vets. Gene Higginbothem took the overa ll a nd OT Expert win. with Ron Dotson not ha ving a very good sta rt in th e seco nd mot o a nd pla ying 100 m uch ca tc h u p. Duane Dotson was firs t Novice. Ron Davies pit-ked up Vets first Expert, a nd John Lin ba rger the Ju nio r trophy. Fred Hubbard was t he Vets Novice winner over Bo b Da vis in a good show . All 250cc Ju nio r/ Expert com b ined riders were an easy run for Wi ggins. desp ite a seco nd mo to cha rge from Dav e Wood all . who tried a bcserko a ffa ir o n the Ma ico rid er fro m t he first lap ju m p into the infield . Wiggins let ~ooda ll by. bu t wit hi n two t u rns had it all back a nd ra n a way and hid. Wood all collected T ed Cabraltoward the end of th e m ow and let hi m by, perhaps in a nt icipation of doing th e sa me th ing that Wi ggi ns had done 10 hi m. But after a fu ll la p and the white flow ing, he sti ll co u ld n't get second back, Cra ig Sta ir took both sides of the J u nio r on a good old Bul with Den ny Scar pete brin g ing h is Cycl e W est Suzuk i in for second. Race seven was a big 250 cc Novice show and G reg Miller was th e win ne r over Cl iff Mee on a Pa ci fi c Perform a nce KTM . while Irv Ach zicer brought th e Da ly City Honda in for third . The Seco n d Divisio n of 250cc Novices saw Ba rry Kirsh ner tak e th e overa ll whi le Colin MacDonald (3 -2) bea t out J ay Cost a for second on his Ya m a ha of Petaluma YZ, O pen ]urnior/Expe rt was another W igg ins b ene fi t d espit e o n e ove r zea lous spectator who cr ossed th e track right in front of th e 17-year-old flash a nd nea rl y got run over for his effo rts. Dean missed him a nd the course, bu t made it all up withou t so much as batting an eye . Bob Da vis took th e J un ior portion with a pair of ones for t he class . T he final run of the n ight was the Open Novi ce and was over just after 10 p. m . lending d redence to the m id week se ries ability to ru n a couple of hundred in good fas hion a nd ge t down early eno ug h to work th e next day.
