With one lap to go , Blakeslee was entering turn one when his engine blew, pouring oil on the reartire and on the track. He fell , followed by a large cloud of white smoke. The race director decided to red flag the race and roll back die positions to the seventh lap. Parme won, Blakeslee was second despite his fall, and Bill Henry was third. When Blakeslee's bike was rolled back into the pits, he discovered he'd thrown a rod through the cases. Parme had an interesting statement: "Outside turn six there were some weird shadows. I thought it was Whitney catching up. I said 'Oh boy, got to gas it up.'" Running after his own shadow may be Parme's secret of winning. Results Mike Meshkoff leads Scott Sheedy in DeAnza's 250cc Intermediate class. Hubbs hauls to DeAnza MX win By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA , AUG. 13, Pat Hubbs (Suz), riding for DMG, made a two-mote sweep of the 125cc Expen class at DeAnza Sunday. Dusty's Cycle rider 28 Robert Gray (Yam) was the only person that could hold a candle to Hubbs in either moto. Ken Odra (Yam), who hasn't been racing regularly during the hot summer months, piloted his bike into the lead in the early laps of moto one . It wasn't long before Odra began to tire, letting both Hubbs and Gray get by. The two of them then began to open a big lead. In the meantime, Dave Rose (Suz) had taken over third place, but was having a hard time with Roger Hensley (Suz). This battle went all the way to the 10th lap, when Hensley finally passed Rose and made it stick. Hubbs was still holding on to a narrow lead over Gray when they crossed the finish line. When they clashed again in the second bout, it was Hubbs leading a jumble of riders through the first turn. Rick Stout and Gray were at war over second place spot while Rose and Craig Gormley (Yam) diced for fourth. On lap five, Gray got by Stout and started chasing Hubbs. The lead. however , remained in Hubbs' hands for the rest of the race. The overall results were Hubbs, Gray, Stout, Rose and Hensley. FMC's Robbie Brand continued to wow the spectators in the 250cc Expert class. FMC , incidentally, plans to enter the motocross oil market early next year. Judging by Brand's performance in past months, the oil must be good stuff. The first moto saw Honda of Corona's Phil Thorstenson get a once in a lifetime holeshot. It took the rest of the pack a lap just to get back in the race. On the second lap, however, John Atwood (Mai) took . over the top position. Brand was way back in the pack trying to make up for a slight detour. He had bounced.off of another rider in mid-air and landed somewhere in the bushes. While Brand was trying to figure out a way to get back on the track, Atwood was building up a lead. By lap seven , however, Brand was in second place and still going. Atwood then made it easy by wasting his transmission. Brand cruised in to an easy victory AFM 250cc GP winner Gennady Luibimsky leads runner-up John Glover. over Danny Jean (Suz) and Bob Haag (Suz). Only one word can describe rnoto two: Brand. It was Brand in front from start to finish. Without Atwood to race with, Brand was all alone. Nearly a half of a lap behind wasJean , who was having a hard time with a badly sputtering Suzuki . On lap six, Haag passed Jean for second place. The last moto and the overall finishing order was Brand, Haag, Jean, Thorstenson and Randy Fleming (Yam). Mike Meshkoff (KTM) was long over due for a win in the 250cc Intermediate class. He got what was coming to him Sunday, but Scott Sheedy made it close. In moto one, Sheedy grabbed the holeshot , but it wasn't long before Meshkoff took over. In moto two, it was Meshkoff all the way. Third place went to Rick Finger (Hus) followed by AI Duncan (Bul) and Jerry Hensky (Suz). Results MINI BEG 1. Greg HalTington ISuzl; 2. Trini : Camarena ISuzl: 3. John Moshl
