AUG . 4 The turnout for Friday night motocross at Corona Raceway continued well over the 200 mark as riders find the nighttime rid ing much more enjoya ble tha n hot daytime action . Steve Ba uer and his Tim Bucktuned DG Honda proved to be a very winning combination as he picked up clean sweeps in both the Open and 250cc Pro cla sses. In the Open th e hardest thing to do was finish as quite a few in the class fell by t he wa ysid e . Ammex -rnounred Gary Jones got the hol eshot wit h Bauer on his exha ust and Yamaha-mounted Robert Marino in third. On th e second lap Bauer got a rou nd jones and took the lead. It was at this point that Marino was out with problems and Lou Fernandez. riding for Dustys , moved into third. They finished in that order. The second moto saw Ba uer take it wire to wire . Jones was a no show and • Marino was in the hunt in second with Fernandez third . Fate again nailed Marino. this time with four laps down. Fernandez moved to second an d Greg Eargle moved to third. At the finish they were still 1-2- S with the overall order the same. Fifteen 250cc Pros were on hand and all wanted apieceof the pie . It was again Bauer with everything going his way. He was out on top in the first moto witbJohn Silva in second, Marty Miller third and Gary Jones fourth. The third lap saw Silva make it m istake and dr opped to fifth. Miller m oved to within striking distance of Ba ue r and one la p late r John Greenw ay, who ha d started in fifth. got around Jones to take over third. With one lap to go the only casualty was Jones when bike problems forced him out. At the checkered it was Ba uer , Miller and Greenway. The second moto was a case of follow the leader as Bauer , Miller and Greenway broke from the gate, rode a nd finished in that order. The overall was also the same. The feisty 125cc Pros had their own attrition problems as the first rnoto saw three go out and two lose a lap. It was Marty Miller Country as the Cr oss Up /Spectro rider had everything his way . Dave Rose and his Rose Racing, Den nis Hartvickson-tuned Suzuki were right behind Miller waiting for the mistake that never came. Danny Bu rt t had enough over Rick Stout to take third. Miller again blasted off the line in the second moto and this time it was Bu rtt in th e pursuit role with Mike Jacob s third . Rose and Stou t were dicing for the fourth and fifth spots. On the second lap Jacobs ran into tr ouble and his third suddenly tu rn ed into a fifth and Stout moved into third . One la p la ter Jacobs was ou t a nd all upwa rd m otion ceased . The overall was clearly Miller wit h Bu rtt edging ou t Rose for secon d by one point. Resu lts ~ MINI BEG 1. Terry Knight (Yomt, 2. Jeff Schoeff . : . ISuzl; 3. Ilo
