and ah ead of Darrell Shultz . Staten .
Tommy Croft and Ken Adams.
Burgett passed Aaen Engineering
Maico-mounted Swartz for the lead on
the fifth lap as Denny began dropping
back - another victim of the heat.
After eight laps the order read
Burgett, Sm ith and Staten with a
battle going on for fourth among
Croft. Tony DiStefano and Stackable.
The halfway mark saw Marty Sm ithput his Honda into the lead position
when Burgett began to slow when a bolt fell out of his rear brake pedal,
making it inoperative.
When t he checkered flag was
brought out, it was Marty Smith with
the win ahead of Rocket Rex , Croft,
Stackable , Burgett and Mickey
Kessler .
The start of the second moto saw
Stackable, Croft. Shultz and five or six
other riders jum p the sta rt and the
referee called for a restart.
On that restart it was Rocket Rex
Sta ten pulling off the holeshot but
Burgett got by on th e second lap and
Staten was being chased by Tony D. .
Smith, Croft, Danny LaPorte and
Shultz . Particularly close was the
bat tle between DiStefano . Smith an d
Croft.
