The patriotic crowd erupted as Frenchman Daniel Pean (Ma i) sprang into an initial lead from Kavinov and Hudson. All three had escaped an horrific crash mid -way int o the first lap. Kavinov and Hudson charged past Pean at the end of lap two and simply rode away from their pursuers, relatively unhampered by the dust. Torleif Hansen (Kaw) and Moiseev completed the first lap lying seventh and eighth, but Hansen left the Russian and hustled through to fourth place behind Harry Everts (Bul ). Hansen crashed heavily trying to get on terms with the 1975 World Champion, who was himself sidelined with a rear tire puncture two laps later. Hakan Carlqvist (Hus) then pushed through impressively into third place, while Moiseev edged out the colorful :" ...
