Northern Ca lifornia short trackers swept 57 of the 64 qualifying
spots for the AMA Minicycle
and Amateur National Cham-

August , a t a doubleheader event held
at th e Lodi Cycle Bowl Saturday and
Su nday. Oregonians captured the
other seven spots on the second day of
competition.
AMA's forma t ca lled for a double
qualifier with the first three positions
in each class being 'elim inated from
the program t he second ' d a y and
automatic ally g aining spots in the
Na tional. T op qualifier after the firs t
d ay was Northern Ca lifomia 's num ber
one Minicycle racer Doug Chandler ,
who qualified four Yama ha of Salinas
m achin es . Doug won t he IOOcc
Schoolboy and IOOcc Amateur classes,
took third in the 85cc (12·14 yea rs)
behi nd Cal Cycl e Su p ply's Da nny
Moore, and McGill's Yamaha racer
Mark Key in th e closest race of the
evening. A third in the 125cc main
closed out Dou g's q ualifying.

Oregon's Dan Bennet t used Chris' 80cc
to qualify in t he I05cc cla ss Sund a y.
