Stackable and into the I~ad. A few laps later, Burgett was elbowing his way around Steve for second. The race turned into another freight train as Burgett tried repeatedly to leave knobby tracks on the Suzuki's yellow rear fender, but Boone kept just inches ahead all the way to the checkered flag . It was Mickey's first National moto victory, the accumulation of two years of hard struggling to join Team Suzuki since he gained National notoriety back in 1976 by trying to claim Bob Hannah's watercooled works bike. > Danny LaPorte did much better this moto, passing Stackable near the 30minute mark for third place. Staten claimed fifth with his Bassett Yamaha ahead of Smith, Jim Turner and Croft. The overall win for the second week in a row though belonged to Burgett : "I'd liked to have beaten Boone in that second moto , but 1 .crashed twice. Once when I tried to get under him in a turn and the other time when 1 let myself get too relaxed from just following ." • (Opposite page) Rickey "Lumberjack" Burgett roosted to his second overall victory in a row at Mt. Morris. (Above) Team Honda's Jimmy Ellis styles around Papa George, his father/wrench behind. (Below) First moto action saw Marty Smith and Honda teamster Tommy Croft (7) relieve Kawasaki's Steve Stackable (9) of his early lead. Results 250cc NATIONAL: 1. Jim Ellis IHonl 1·1; 2.
