immense. He cruised in to an t'asy win
over Heil and Purinton.
The second maio was a carbon copy
of the first. Baldwin had no trouble at
all in taking the win and first place
money. An interesting note is that
Todd's brother. Brandon Baldwin,
won the 250cc Novice class in spite of
having no rear brakes on his Suzuki .
Doug Heil came back from his
second in the 125cc Pro class to win
the Open Pro class , He took both
motos from Rory Holladay (Yam) ,

beat DeAnza MX
By Ron Lawson
SUNNYMEAD. CA, JUNE 25
He must have still been tired
from his ride at the Superbowl
the night before, but Robbie
Brand still managed to make'his
26
way out to DeAnza where he stormed
both motos of the 250cc Pro class . At
the start of mota one. he shot his
FMC/Yamaha into the lead and
started to pull away. Rick Cavish (Suz)
had second place until he fell and gave
the position to David Hopkins (Suz).
Scott Quick (Suz) also fell early in the
race. but after a couple of laps he was
back up with the leaders , By lap six ,
Quick had made his way up to second
place, but he was far behind Brand.
The FMC rider kept his lead all the
way to the finish, with Quick,
Hopkins, Cavish , Rick Lee (Suz) and
Chip Tanke (Mai) following .
The stan of the next mota was more
of the same. Brand shot into the lead
with Cavish and Lee right behind.
Hopkins fell in the first turn and later
retired from the race. On the first lap ,
Quick passed Lee and started to dice
with Cavish. The two Suzuki riders
went at it for about five laps and built
a great lead over fourth place, then
Quick started 10 slack off. He already
had second place mom'y in the bag
and there was no used in taking any
risks , Brand finished the race with
another big lead and took an t'asy first
ovt'rall.
The 125cc class had another
runaway winner. Todd Baldwin (Suz)
took his first Pro win ever and made it
look easy . MOIO one saw Danny
Purinton (Suz) grab the holcshor, bUI
he was passed in turn one by Baldwin,
who then rook off. Doug Heil (Suz)
pushed Purinton for a couple of laps,
