CA, J UNE II Some of the toughest competition in California Racing Club mem bership came down to grind up Racing Worlds's Marty Smith track. Lance Moorewood , out of racing for two months with an injury incurred at the Racing World Nationals, came back to give the loc al boys a lesson in en d u ra n ce. Entering into a ll three Pro ra ces, the l25cc, 25 0cc a n d Open , he plunged into an all -out effort to get in sh a pe for the upcoming Superbowl of Motocross. In the first 125 cc Pro moto , Moorewood jumped off the lin e in third but rounded the sec o nd turn in the number o ne posit ion a nd held it to the finish . Next t ime a r o u n d. Mighty Moorewood made a magnificent fourlap first place run . but a las , hi s chain sna p ped a n d that was that. Chris Hackman . who fell twice in the first moro and placed only seventh , had pushed hi s wa y up to a very tight challenge a nd wh en Moorewood broke , took it over to finish first and take second overall . First for the day went to Gary Scheidler who finished second both times , and third overa ll was pi cked up by Chris Saunders who ate it twi ce in both motos but bounced back for the money. Dave Eropkin , the White Brothers blond bomber . aced the ho leshot in the first round of the 250cc Pros , but DG ' sponsored LanceMoorewood put the squeeze on him in the fourth lap and took it o ver to finish number one. Eropkin hung tight to finish second on Moorewood's tail , and third went to Ron Stablein. Moorewood d ominated the number two moto with Eropkin in se co nd until the last lap when Moorewood , who was beginning to tire out . slipped and Eropkin flashed b y. Moorewood's mistake cos t h im first ove ra ll . wh ich went to Eropkin . Ron Stablein fought off Andy Giuth for tw o laps but G iuth won the battle and finished thi rd for third o verall . Open Pros Chris Hackman, Lance Moorewood and Mark Brown landed I . 2 , 3 , in their first race but at the sta rt. H a ckman . who is currently leading in the CRC su m mer se ries point sta n d ings for the Open Pros, was in fourth behind Dennis Gilmore, Moorewood , and Mark Brooks . That kind of competition is tough to tackle. but Hackman did it and ca m e out on top . Gilmore bowed out after four tours of the track , giving the first place slot to Moorewood. Brooks then pushed into second and fought off Hackman for nine laps but Hackman kept at him and wh en Brooks' foot p eg ca m e loos e and fell off, m aking it hard to shift and impossible to sta n d on the bumps, H ackman moved in for the kill and took over sec o nd , Then in the last lap Moorewood , defending first , spun out o n a co rne r a n d H a ckman made it by to complete the race with a first place win. Moorewood finish ed second wit h Brooks in third , Brooks ca me back to dominate the second m ot o , Takin g the hol esh ot , h e ran a d yn amic first -place race all the wa y. Hackman sta rted in third but quickly c rea ted room for himself in second a nd stayed there to finish with a first ove ra ll.
