'Armendariz aces AME Minicross By Judy Greenberg Photo by Bob Greenberg VALENCIA , CA, JUNE 2 Riders stormed the Indian Dunes Mini Track for the weekly Friday night racing with American Minicycle Association. Walter Armendariz sailed around in command of the J u n io r Cycle Modified Intermediates' fi rst moto . Larry Turner held Carl Tignino off in a fiesty battle for second . When Tignino ran into t rouble, R a ym on d Swearinger was there to take over third at the finish. Tignino pulled the lea d at the start of the second moto, with Swearinger a nd Armendariz charging from be hind. Armendariz made h is move around Swea ringer and the n sought Tingino's place. When he tried to pass ' on the outsideof the sweeper, Tignino shot the inside and spun out. Second and third were then picked up by Swearinger and Turner. Pa ul Smith (R&D) breezed smoothly out of the gate to take control of the first moto fo r the 8!lcc Stock Int e rm ed iates . A tight battle fo r second took place between Ted Kn ipe . Kurtie Henricksen and David Seek ins. It was all over for Sm ith when he th rew his chain. paving the way fo r Knipe to take th e mor o win . The secon d ti me . it wa s Henricksen's Yamaha in charge of the bri gade. Knipe and Seek ins struggled th ro ugh every tu rn as the tri ed to find a wa y around. but Henricksen held his ground. When he missed a shift over th e j ump . Kn ipe t hou ght he go t his b reak. But his hopes were crus hed as Henricksen put his bi ke in gea r a nd dashed on to the flag . Andy Nel inge r lost his ea rl y lead in th e 12 yea rs and ove r 8!lcc Stock Juniors to Rich ieJames in th e first lap . Nelinger didn't give up . a nd aft er a hearty scramble, was ba ck in fro nt , leaving James to duel with Tony Na gy. Mark Davenport moved in to make it a threesome, but Jam es wasn't about. to relinquish second , keeping h is wheel in front as he crossed th e fin ish. Things ch anged around the second time , as Kris Br andini barreled out of the gate and never looked back. Andy Ward co n t ro lled second, as James tri ed hopelessly to ge t around . While James 'concent ra ted on W ard's lin es, Da venport moved in a nd placed himself between the two .The trio the n scrambled all over th e co urse , with J ames moving back in th ird to e nd t he moto .
