Stitcher powered by Frankos in a sec tio n of whoopdies a nd opened a lead. Frankos faltered again a nd Serrano too k over second, with Englu nd on the move. Engl u nd took over third after an incred ib le ra lly to catch the leaders. Stitch er ca me to th e approach of the bigg est j um p on the track wide open , hit a hole and went d own . Serrano took the lead a nd put some tir e tracks in Stitcher's back as he wen t by. Englund, now in seco nd , closed th e gap between himself and Serrano, but cou ld not pass. Englund was not to be den ied thoug h, an d he pa ssed Serano in mid -a ir to tak e th e lead at th e finish line jump. Englund crosse d less than two seconds a head of Serrano , Serrano got ou t first in th e seco nd rnoto , with Englund and Frankos beh ind . Serrano and En glund began to pu ll away fro m th e pack as th ey set the pace. When Serrano a nd Eng lund began to lap riders, Carlos went dow n as he tangled with three of the slower bikes. Englund , with one first be hind him, beg an to look for another. Frankos never beca me a threa t to Englu nd as he crossed the line to take first overall hon ors. In O pen class action , Engl und gra bbed the holeshot in the first mot o opened a and im media tely comfortable lead over " Boo" Sti tcher. Stitcher never was within striking distance as Englund rode to his win of th e ni!'(ht . W ith most of Engl und's competition finis hing back in the pack, the on ly man between En glu nd a nd three overalls was Stitcher , second in the first mot o , Englund see med d etermin ed to bea t St itcher as he roared out of th e ga te in th e second moto. Stitcher seemed determined to win th e moto too , as he pulled out rig h t on Englund's tail. Ma ico -rnounted Roger Smith got off to a better start in third , Stitcher stayed close for th e ent ire rnot o , b u t cou ld n ot muster th e power to get by Englund. -Englu nd crossed th e lin e first , tak in g with him close to $950 of the $4000 Expert p urse.
