MAY 14 AMA Amateur National Open Scrambles Champion Tim Linfors and his flat-head H a rley KR probably have close to a thousand laps on his "home track" , of Lake Ka n opo lis, but Wyoming's R u d y Foster, who had never set eyes or tires . on it before, battled Tim down to the last lap Sunday when he zoomed around in the north sweeper to take the win . This was the first win for Foster's new XR -750 . "Slidin' C.D." Martin , who had been buried back in the pack, charged to the front and also got around Linfors on the last lap for second. Denny Byrne and Gary Schlickeau jumped to the front in the 500cc final with Dan Brooks hanging draft .as Jim Ra tliff dropped out with re ar hub m a lfu nctions. By the third lap, La rry Ken nedy zipped by Dan Roberts on for fourth as Bill Snyd er ca me from the back row to fifth . On the last lap he got by Ken nedy in the North sweeper as "the Bu rn er" won again. Phil Cu lver and Tom Foster won the 250cc hea ts and they got th e holeshot side by side in the final. Cu lver put the zap on Foster o n the front chute, b ut five seconds la ter Culver's arm shot up in th e air to signal a dead engine. Fosler got the lead back as Terry Francis moved int o second ahead of M~I Watson . Danny Lynn moved from the back to cha llenge Watson . He took third in the North sweeper , but Watson gOI it back a la p later, Da nny Clarke and " Bad Chad" Olinger were run -away winners in the 200cc hea ts. bu t Renee Ken nedy got the holeshot in the final. Clarke took the lea d in the South u ph ill as O linger was way back in sixth but by th e third lap was behind Ken ned y. Olinger waited until the last lap a nd then put a slick move to pass her in the tight switchback. Renee and Culver won both 125cc heats and Culver shot to the front in the final and ran away with it.
