Bob Hayes booster I haven't read much in Cycle N ews about Bob Hayes running for the 39th District Re pu b lica n for Assemblyman . He is a fellow motorcycle rid er . and in these days where our representation in Government has to be increased we should suppon him in every way possible. CA Just helpin' out The significance and im p lica tions of the BLM Wilderness Review on the Cal ifornia Desert represent one of the gTeatest crisis fa ced by the desert motorcyclists in recent yea rs. Needless to say. communication will play a cri tica l rol e in determining th e final outcome of the rev iew pr ocess . The American Motorcyclist Association is deeply indebted to Cycle News West and its staff for in creasing our abi lity to commun icate with not only AMA members but also to all motorcyclists in California . Your cooperation and assistance in spreading the word about the wilderness process and how riders can impact that process is deeply appreciated . T he coo perative efforts between t he AMA. District 37 Lega l Defense Task Force, and Cycle News West represent the orga nized efforts that will be necessary to adeq uately represent motorcyclists' interests. Thanks for your help . NV BLM eye open er You never know what you'Il wal k into when ' you get a wro ng address . fro m the Burea u of La nd Management . On May I I . in Bishop. CA . what we had expected to be a public wilderness meeti ng turned o ut to be a b usiness meeting of the California Desert Advisory Com m itt ee . Too late we realized we had st umbled into the wrong meeting . Althought there was no public input . it was nevertheless an eye opener. There are three set s of meetings scheduled with the BLM and th e CDAC cov e ring all aspects of the desert exce pt off-road vehicle enthusiasts: July 19·20 In San Bernardino . Sept. 28 ·29 in San Bernardino , NO\·. 30 . Dec . 1·2 in Riverside . The BLM plans field trips fo r the CDAC so that they can see , first hand . the controversial areas . Some areas that are too difficult or inconvenient for field trips will be discussed with slide presentations. Needless to say. the BLM will slant th e coverage to suit their own needs. We feel that motorcyclists shou ld be represented on these field trips so that we may know . . first hand . what direction t he BLM is taking . An o th er point we feel is importa nt is tha t t he C DAC t hinks highly of slide p resenta tio ns. It would seem that a nytime we wish to make a point on the Wilderness St udy Areas. back it up with slides! If yo u have a favorite area that t he BLM wa nts to study. show them that it would be a waste of time. Show the m 1 q BI LL C A MPB EL L.:> President .
