CA , MAY 21 Hemet Cycle's Bill Tarling a nd his 400cc Bel-R ay KTM picked up the win a t W RA High Desert Championship at Riverside Raceway . 38· David Gerig , mou nted on a Suzuki, pulled the ho leshot in C lass 22 (ove r 251cc ) with T a rli ng , Cra ig Ada ms, a nd Brent Wallingsford all wit hin stri king dis ta nce . In Class 21 (250cc) it was Bob Ru tten (H · D) ju mping out front with Rob in Busse a nd Bill Jewett in hot pursui t whi le Rick Stout was off the line first in Class 20 ( 125cc a nd under). On th e ninth lap Tarling proved he was in to tal co m mand by rid ing on his rea r wheel in fro nt of th e grandsta nds for q ui te a distance and the crowd went wild . W he n th e checkered flag dropped , it was Ta rli ng on top with Adams and W all ingsford a sho rt d istance behi nd .
