Wonderwhy7 Larry Katul and Jeff Bott were right on Bennett's tail. but it was Paul . Belisle . a former speedway racer. who won the approval of the crowd. Unfortunately. Belisle thought he was first Novice and he used a lot of energy waving and doing little crowd pleasers while Roland Dean was running away with the number one brass. Asbury went on for an easy win . plus he had the fastest time of the day . He later commented that although he missed his strongest competitor. Craig Adams. he still enjoyed this race. The 250cc class proved once more that motorcycling is a great spectator sport. Skip Wade. riding for Sunshine Yamaha. grabbed the lead with Lance Tubbs and Don Vesco's Lynn Brown right behind him . As Wade lost his line through the mud. Tubbs took the lead. Then the trio put on a grueling side-by-side bailie for the next seven laps. As they diced for the lead . Tubbs and his Yamaha began to tire . The Yam had five broken spokes. a bent rim and a hub that was barely staying together. At this point. Wade came upon a downed rider and caught a handlebar in the ribs. John Taylor moved into third then gave it to Tom Bell in the mudho le. Brown. who usually rides desert. kept his cool throughout the mess and moved on to claim the checkered. As the Senn brothers from East West M.C. grabbed the Mini class lead. Novice Kelley Moore made his move. He passed l l-year-old Amateur. Keith; then gassed it after SRA's youngest Expert. 12-year·old Kevin. (The 14-year-old Moore. who is nicknamed 'The Rat' . does all his own maintena nce a nd also bought his own machine .) As Novice Howard Henderson was working his way past Jason Prater. Dean Albin and Jimmy Lucero. Keith Senn slid out on a curve and Henderson moved into third . In the meantime. the ShoemakerInternational M -C-sponsored Expert Senn had been busy lapping all riders except 'The Rat' who took second. At the end of the 8I ·200cc race . it was Jim OdIe out front with Jerry Trimble and Mike Monaghan holding a comfortable second and third . Mark McFarland and Ron Laffranchi kept up their exhausting duel right down to the end but they all finished in that order. Results SENIOR: 1. Charlie Conway. Ex-open; 2. George Erl, Ex. IHus); 3. APR . 29 The rainy skies decided not to rain cats and dogs for a change and this permitted the Scholastic Association of Motocross to commence High School motocross. At this time th e program is still building up and more racers and school teams are coming together to battle competitively . There were five different races that fired off this afternoon and out of these COntests. Cerritos High School cleaned up with the majority of the victories to their name . Some of these riders are quite devout and have been associated with the SAM for all of their years in high school. One of these has got to be Dee Tryon . one of th e specially outfitted riders from Cerritos. Tryon downed a small but fast 125cc Expert crew which blasted off of the starting gate at the same time as the 100 and 250cc Expert people. In the first moto of action .it was clear that the race was in the control of Tryon as his Suzuki edged ahead for the first place win. He made it dear that he deserved die victory by whipping on them again in the second moto as well for the overall win of the 125 Expert class .
