Although the racing was very tight and close , the top three riders remained constant and they finished in that order. The Open Money half mile was the b -race full of action. Fortune was now at the helm with McWhorter and Rowe in the two , three spots. As the white flag came out Dorothy insisted on "ladies first " and got by McWhorter and held him off to take second. Dylan Neihart was ready for the 259cc Expert half mile. He got a super start that took him into the first tum with a solid lead. Terry Singleton locked in behind Neihart , trying to apply some pressure that would cause Neihart to make a m istake. Back in third a new face on the Corona scene, Burt Stephens, who had really made his mark in the heats, had troubles of his own as Pat Eagan started knocking at his door. It opened on the next lap and the front three were in position. , Try as they might, nothing changed as Neihart brought it on home by a comfortable margin with Singleton second and Eagan third. Dorothy Rowe followed Dan McWhorter for five laps in the Open Expert half mile before she slipped under him and led him home. Tom Pappas was third. Todd Brown showed the troops the way to do things in the 250cc Expert short track. It was a case of follow the leader as Brown took it off the line and Bert Steffens and Gary Jones lined up behind him and followed him home.
