--------------------------------------_. line .. Third-place 83cc Modi fied Junior Pat Wa lsh (62) roosts by another co mpetitor at AME's night min icross. capture first in the Amateur class. Honky Herb won the first moto but wasn't quite fast enough to hold off Jumbo Jim in the second. Get-off Gary Williams (Mai) ran a strong third for the day. And now for the main event; but first I would like to interject a personal note. My wife can tell you (fellow members) how much this writer prepared for this Invitational meet . Well , as luck would have it , I took a humongous get-off laying the # ?@ ., desert course. I wasn 't able to give 100 % in the Expert class event. (A likel y story you say . .. .. well I've got th e doctor bills to prove it.) It turned out to be a fine day for PutPut Pete Dill (Mai) and almost one for Bashful Bill Hill (Mai) . In th e first moto Put-Put Pete led from wir e-to-wire with Bashful Bill right behind him most of the way . Maniac Mike Rehorn (KTM) snuck in there for third with Juicy John VanHoove (Mai) fourth . The holeshot went to Bashfu l Bill in the second moto with Put -Put Pete following. It wasn 't too long (about three laps) until Put -Put Pete overtook Bashful Bill and went on to take the checkered flag for first overall. Mr. Hill took second for the day. , The other battle that was being waged took place ' between Maniac Mike and Juicy John for third spot. The Juicer was able to stay in frontof Maniac Mike long enough . to nail down third place. Results in Results Section. * ........ Shelton shoots AME minicross double By Judy Greenberg VALENCIA, CA . APR . \4 Overa lls for the 83cc Stock and Modified Interm ed iates went to T im Shelton of Langford Engineering during Friday night A.M .E. Minicycle racing at Indian Dunes. She lton's r.ompetition was hottest in the Modified class. with tight racing throughout. Rod Stiles (E lectro Helmets) took to the track after a long absence from racing, and made his presence known from the time he holeshot the first moto until the checkered called the last lap to a halt. Cindy Dumo had control of second as Shelton moved in from behind. Going into the tower turn, the two riders closed the gap to put the heat on Stiles, but he pulled away in the straights to stay in command . With Dumo sandwiched into second as the trio reached the hairpin , Shelton rode a tight inside line, taking over second. He then ' pu t the squeeze on Stiles, moving to his side in a last attempt , but Sti les pulled his wheel out firs t to take the flag . The second time Dumo and Sh elton were neck and neck out of the gate . Stiles didn 't have the best start , and fell into fourth behind Eddie Green . Dumo tried to hold off Shelton as they dueled bar-to-bar through most of the cou rse , but Shelton 's inside pass in the ess put him in front to the finish . David Seekins, hampered with b ike trouble , co uld n' t get enoug h steam to get by St iles, but hung close as Stil es pushed Green inside and out in every turn , lap after la p , until he made a sweep before th e ess and moved into third as the final flag came out. Pee Wees Justin Souza and Charlie Butler took pointers during the 83cc Intermediates, and surprised everyone with their Pee Wee competitiveness. Butler took the lead in the fir st moto , but Souza was hot on his tail and tri ed to take it away in the turns. When he took a stab at the inside of the minisweep , his wheel hit some mud , causing him to lose ground and a chance at first. The second time , things reversed and it was Butler who put the squeeze on Souza in an attempt to make a clean sweep , but Souza held on to take the overaII. Johnny McClellan took command of both motos of the 9-\\ Beginners, leaving the action behind him in second . Mike Su llivan and Bob C lark placed and showed in the first moto , but Lisa Sanders p ut the boys to work in the seco nd . Richard Alexand er passed her on the first tower jump, but she turned on he r Honda and too k it back by the time they rea ched the ess . When he tried again in the next turn , she was ready for him and shut him off to finish third behi nd McClellan and Sullivan. With a couple ra ces unde~ her belt , this little lady is starting to move . • Resu lts in Results Section.
