First. let me say that th e AMA d oes no t promote races as is the case with some of the other sm all er sanctioning bodies. We are a sa ncti on ing body a nd sancti on races at t he requ est of a nd / or in agreement with p ro moters a nd clubs. I personally tried to work with promoters in some of th e areas listed for t he pa st th ree yea rs an d m y attem pts have been un su ccessfu l. Wh y have m y attem p ts been un su ccessfu l? I rea lly do n't know . I ca n't ge t a ny spec ific rea so ns as to wh y t hese pro mo te rs won 't r u n a n AMA sa nctioned race . T he o nly thing t hat sta nds out is that the prom ot ers claim that t he y do not have eno ug h rid ers to p ut on an AMA race a nd mak e any money. They clai m that by ru nning non ·AMA th ey will get more riders a t their trac k. Now I get to the reason for this lett er. If you, a rider , are in an area th at doesn 't ha ve any AMA Amateu r and Profession a l races, write to you r local p ro mote r and as k hi m to co nsider do ing so. Tell him that you need you r AMA points to become an AMA Pro Expert. If enough riders write and a re willing to su pport AM A races , the promo te r shou ld be willing Con testants f or th e W orld Mini Ra ce of Champions wae pick ed on th e basis of t heir[inish cs t hro ugh t his yea r, and thr previ ous year's unnn er is invit ed back .
