Ed Minton took the 100cc Novice portion over Da ve Carrera a nd Jerry Cabral on his Cycle W est Su zuki. Lee Duncan took 'a pair of twos for the overall SOcc Novice win over Charlie Venegar with Taryl, beating ou t Tiner MacArthur in a tie for third. Brad Sarganis took both ends of the 100cc Sportsman wit h Brian Duarte combining a 2-3 for the second trophy. Charlie Halcomb was using today's race as a ' good rune -up for h is upcoming National 125cc effort which will start at Hangtown in under a mo nth . Da ve Wood came off a fou rt h in t he first moto to tie .for points and second with Dave Woodall with a 4· 2 against Woodall's 3· 3, the difference for seco nd a nd th ird . Spence came back for a last -Iap charge a nd Open Expert win over -a h ighly disgusted Da n ny Cast leha no . It was the la rgest cro wd of th e new season for th e Sand H ill crew a nd the big in cr ease in the Novice classes shows posit ive for th e sport: Rod Sm ith was th e best of the 250 cc No vice bunch , winning over H a nk W eber and J ohn Silva . whi le Dallas H am ilt on won th e / overall IOO!l25cc Novi ce with Dave Rod riguez in second over Cu rt No bles . In Mini act iort, T roy Barazoto won both heat and main in th e SOcc Novice sec tio n with Chris Cam eron t aking . sec ond for Carnegie Cycle Park , and R ick Ol son in fo r th e third trophy. Doug Ch a nd ler traded spots with Danny Moore from heat to main for th e SOcc Expert win and more poi nts toward a third championsh ip on h is Salinas-Nl) Yamaha . Moore is fas tly becoming th e kid to watch , and give Doug a race in this cla ss. Jack Dee Barton is the fas t kid in the lOOcc class , beating out Joe Knight for tha t honor. In the 250cc Expert , Spence a nd Mo rrell had a real ' dog fig ht with Mo rrell leading and Spen ce passing . but ge tting re p assed in the he at. T he main was a lot of th e sa me with Morrell taking the win in the four-m an class. . Over in th e O pen Expert clas s, Dan ny Castlehano and the Fremont Yamaha /Da d Castlehano 400 YZ look ed for all bidders like a n easier win ner , only to get ni pped out at the checkered by Spence in .some of the fast est action seen on this TT track. The combined class 'for the night was the 250cc and O pen Junior, with Da le Hansen winning on a nic e TT 500 with Dave Lehman p uffi ng in for second. J eff Nichols took the 250cc class . The fast guy of the day was Expert Larry Wos ick . Mike Schlow won th e first I25cc Expe rt moto with the hard ch arging W osick in hot pursuit . The second moto Sh awn Ca dy - fifth in th e first rnoto - was dialed in but Wo sick wanted the win . W osick passed Cady down th e front st ra ightaway but Cady held his Suzuki wide open , found an ex tra five horsepower .and passed Wosick back on the ou tside in th e sixth-gear corner. Bu t , with consisten t ridi ng, W osick won th e overall . In the 250cc Exper ts , W osick (Ya m) cou ld no t be stopped , winni ng both motos. In the first one W es Elrod got the holeshotand tried hard to win , but W es is plagued with asthma and co uld n ot hold Wosick back . The second moto Wosick had to come from behind to win . H e rode like there was no tomorrow and won. He also picked up sponsor , Vickers Conc re te a nd Sawing Company , ' a nd al so Dirt Werkes. Three divisions of I 25cc Novices were in for som e hairy raci ngl Dallas H am ilton won the scrambles Friday night and cam e out Su n d a y and smoked Division II of the 125s. Mike Myth en was second. Kenny Henze, the winner of Division I for two weeks in a row, has a Hond a 750 with a trailer, and brings his I25cc Suzuki on th e trailer , eve n in the rain a nd co ld wea ther. The O pen Expert class was a ·repea t of two weeks ago wit h Curt W ilcox sti ll in th e winner's circle . Second p lace went to Big John Roed er with thi rd goi ng to R ick Ti m mossi . The IOOcc Novice race was a thriller with Matt Morenzo winning, but he had h is hands full with Fr ankie Hastings comi ng ou t of retirem ent.
