Riding a Country Yam ahasponsored bike, in all three Pro classes he was able to notch wins ' by taking advantage of other Pros' back · luck, and by just plain ha rd charging. In the 125cc class, he was plai nly the best on the track as he notched backto-hac k fi rsts . beating Steve Pless (Yam) 3-2 and Dave Therreault's 2-3. Northwest's best came off the line with Blasdell in the 250cc class as he raced wire-to-wire in the first moto with Mark Gregson (Yam). Mark won the moto but had bad luck in the second when his chain came off on his LOP Yamaha. Rowdy was right there to take the lead and post the win and first overall . Open action also had its share of top ' cont enders and Blasd ell managed a second in the first moto behind Skeet Hise (Yam). T he second moto saw him get around- Hise in t he final stages a nd pull a first for the overall win . Skeet finis hed righ t on his heels to pick up secon d ove ra ll. Treve Mc Reynolds (Suz) had a 3-4 d ay for third overa ll. The Amateurs ha d a la rge turnout a nd th e Min i Junior class saw Rod Presley (Suz) bat tle ' with Steve Bye (Ya m) a nd Jay Collins (Ya m) . In the first moto, Rod m anaged to pull it wire-t o-wire a nd in the second moto he ha d to work his way around Bye a nd Collins to gai n the number one spo t a t mo te 's end. Score a pe rfect first overall for Presley. Mi ni In termedia te rid ers had a battle and whe n the mud settl ed. it was Robby Watilo (Yam) doing it ; r igh t both times for fi rst overa ll : Denny Fennell (Yam) pulled a 3-2 for seco nd and Ga ry Harkleroad (Suz) rode a 4-5 for thi rd . I n the Pee Wee class. Fr osty Corcora n just continues to frost the com petition. Larry Ward, Jr. go t second while Nicky Blasd ell (Su z) was th er e for a close 3-3 third. Victor Pa rris h (Yam) pushed to a 12 in the 100cc J unior class, whi le his toughest competition ca me in the form of Robert Corcora n (Yam), who rode to a 3- 1 day. J am es Croff (Ya m) pulled a 2-4 for th e da y. The 100cc Intermedia tes were led to the wire in bo t h hea ts by Crai g La mber (Yam) . Steve Corcora n (Yam) followed a nd Robb y Watilo (Ya m) . managed a tight third . Craig Boyle (Ya m) rode to first overall in th e 125cc Junior A cla ss while Mike Blackwell posted a 3·4 , good en ough for second. Ga ry Baslar (Yam) had a 5-3 for thi rd. In the I2 5cc Junior B group , Rick Phill ips. riding fo r Va nco uver Suzuki, had two very positive firsts for the overall. Ron Wooding (Yam) had a 2· ~ 2 d ay for second and Ken ny Rogers (Ya m) posted a 3-3 for third . Kelly Whelchel (Suz) , riding for Cha r -lee Furniture , took the I 25cc Intermediates while Jod y Becker (Suz) finished second. Steve the "Spook" H owla nd took his new I25cc "Zook" in for third overall. The 250cc Juniors came off the line so tight you cou ld cover them all with Paul Bu nya n's bla nket. By mote's end , Rick Rism oen (Ya m) tallied the first spot a nd he did it again in the second mo to. Tom Gasta ld i (Ya m) pulled seco nd a nd Curtis Ker bau gh (Ho n) d id a 2-4 for third. The 250cc Intermediates saw Doug Foster (Suz) ride to a 3-1 for the overa ll win . Eric Schumacher (Suz) tallied a 2-2 for second and Darryl Semmler (Yam) had a I -5 for th ird. Tom MacIntyr e (Ya m) h ad a perfect d ay at the line a nd shot for the overall in the Open Junior class. J oe Kn ight (Suz) was second and J im Parks was thi rd . In the Open Inte rmediate class, Mike Sutherlin (Su z) did what's best, two firsts for th e over a ll. Fred Keen posted a 3-3 fo r second and Ra y Shanafelt , Captain In surance, rode his Maico to a th ird overa ll. The 30-40 Junior cla ss came off the line and it was Glen Barnett who d id
