Darrell Shultz used the " Magnu m " force of his Maico to rocket off the line first in the first Open Pro moto , followed by Delno Becker and Bill Swartze; Tad Gumbmann was comi ng up quickly through the pack. At the rate he was going, "T ad Pole" could catch Shultz by the end of the moto , By lap ' fou r Gumbmann took over second from Swa rtze whi le Shu ltz was pulling a slight lead . Tad was really closing the gap and by the white flag had moved u p to where he might have a chance in the last la p . W hen they came around before the finish , Tad was close and Darrell looked back and saw him moving up. He then turned, saw how close l1e was to the finish , then set his pace to assure him a win. He took the checkered with Gumbmann right on his tail. Swartze finished back in third . Moto two was another one of Shultz's holes hots but this time Gumbmann was there from the start to put the pressure on . Swartze was again in third . Shultz was pulling a lead by lap three but when the white flag started waving, "T ad Pole" put his Maico into W .F. Overdrive and impelled himself into position to do battle with Shultz . The battle never resulted in any lead changes so Shultz took the win and overall with Gumbmann second for second overall. Swartze was back in third and Delno Becker fin ished fourth overall. .... - It took three tries to get the 250cc Experts started but Shultz had little trouble making it to the first turn ahead of Gumbmann and Don 'Ferraro.
