The tpp 15 100cc riders line up with the new Yamaha YZ~ before the Race of Champions. The bikes were up for sale for $799 after the race. - the track, but at the line Fortney stayed out fro n t. Keith Davis , Ricky Collins and Tony Neilson led the 125cc No vice final , but bad luck hit t he early lea der . Da vis withstood pressure from Col1ins until Neilson took over th e number two spot and applied heavier doses . Davis lasted until the last lap where he slipped , dropping to third and giving Neilson th e win with Collins second. Intermed iates on the 125cc ma chines came out for the IOth final , and Derek Wedding wanted his second title. Pedro Perales came out from . ennessee to do business, too , and he ga~e his best effort to beat Wedding. An intense battle emerged as these two fought for the top spot. Perales pulled ~edding around the course, blocking and, sliding his way in front. When the checkers flew, Wedding could only .~a ~ch Perales take them first. Kyle Landrum and Stormy Gartrell followed in third and fourth . Although he didn't look fast , John " Miller put his Suzuki out in front of QtM,'125cc Pro field . Smoothness was hi$ key to the wire-to -wire victory over Dick Young and Eddie Walker. Deuce-and-a- half competition was next on the roster with the Novices goihg first . Chris Christoph grabbed an"early lead and held it to th e wire widi BrentJohnson and Mike Smith on his ta il. In the Intermediates, Derek Wedding finally go t his second title as lie}defea ted Stormy Gartrell and Tim s Db h n . '(TI Professionals in the 250cc division cotild have made th e night a complete success all b y themselves. Randy :> Kirschbaum made a last -ditch effo rt (or the lead and go t his wishes on the lastJap when he pulled Chappy Blose and Greg Howard across th e line. 0'A Race of Champion s was the final event on the schedule , as the top 15 100'cc riders all com peted on stock 'Y ama has. T aking th e win with a wireto-wire lead was Ben Theriot of Louisiana . After the race, the bik es were pu t up for sale , but one of the questio nables was th e machine of Mike W alcott.
