In th e Novice cla ss, first place was won cleanly by D irt y Don (H us), who had 10 come through heavy traffic in eac h rnoto to go I -I for a first overa ll. J ester J erry (Ya m) led th e pa ck for th e first half of eac h moto but sett led for second as Dirty Don got by h im eac h tim e . Brewis and Ford were in an im media te battle for second at th e sta rt of moto two . Ford got the edge in the back of the cou rse . b ut Longmore was already out of sight. A well-tu ned Su zuk i and a lot of skill was th e winning combina tion for Absurd Al who led th e Experts in both motos for a I -I win. In moto on e Jungle J oe stayed with AI through th e whit e flag lap until a broken throttle cable caused him to DNF, allowing Ra th ole Rocky seco nd place at th e chec kers . ~ I n mo to two Jungle Joe came ba ck with a vengea nce, taking th e holeshot with Rock y a nd Al chasing him , but Joe's lead was temporary as Ab surd AI took his place at th e head of the pack on th e second lap and held it. Rathole Rocky took second overall even though he lost two positions when he highsided a berm allowing, Gigo Gary a nd Tacky Tim to pass . Dinky Denny (Ya m) wh o placed sixth in By Andi Gangewer ELSINORE, CA , FEB . 25 Mario Ayers. a IS -year-old from Cerritos. pulled off a double header at Elsinore R a cewa y's Saturday night TT scrambles. Aboard a 125cc Yamaha , Ayers took the first 125cc Novice race with ease , leading every lap and ushering second p lace Jerry Stra in in , with David Waples third . Waples had a close call as his Su zu ki inched in front of Phil Billinger on the last la p just in time for the checkered. In moto two, Waples pulled the ho leshot and stayed j ust a ha ir in front of Ayers , who was pushing hard and continually creeping up on Waples. The white flag signa led " last chance" and Ayers made his move on Waples and for the second time clinched first. Strain swapped places with W aples this moto as he finished third a n d Waples was second. In the th ird and final ra ce , Ayers aced this one and earned a place in th e winner's c ircl e. Wapl es wa s a n unhappy seco nd, and St eve T roxler bea t Strain ou t of th e th ird . Ayers was back to also rece ive to p hon ors in the Sp ecial Novice class. Mot o one Ayers and David Luna battled for first place hon ors . Ayers got off in first and held tight rei ns on his lead . Luna co nt inued to lu nge a t Mario, but to no avail as th e checke re d fell with Mario in th e lead , Luna seco nd , and Mark Lite third . Luna was fully prepared to tak e on Ayers in moto two . He tim ed th e start to perfecti on and led throughout th e race . Yamaha -mounted Dan Bernstrorn was second. but received fier ce competition from the rear. Ayers worked up from last place off th e line to narrowly ac hieve second , as in the final la p he d ived under Bernstrom to take second. The final ra ce went to Ayers which clinched him th e win and the Special N ovi ce trophy. Lun a , Suzuk im ount ed , finish ed second . an d Bernstrom was thi rd . • Results in Results Section .
