Rick Reno charged from eighth and into the lead at the start of lap two but fell on the first downhi1l and Randy Sm ith took over, followed by Dave Guisinger and Dix. Black and Tom Morris . who also was on a Kansas City. studded Husky , moved through the pack and into the front . Dix and Black battled for the Heavyweight overall whi le Guisinger and Morris were behind going fo r the top Lighweight honors. Morris took the top small-bore overall win, but was also told after the event " no studs" next time. Events run in the Kansas City area permit studded tires. so many riders are equipped with them. Most Kansas clubs are KMSA members and KMSA is an amateur association that tries to hold expensive and extensive modifications down to a minimum. Mcintyre was fourth out of th e hole th e second moto and had the lead by the third tum. He held th e number on e position the remainder of th e race . LaPointe , Perrera , and Beaman fought it out for second with Perrero getting by LaPointe but only for a short period. LaPointe moved back . into second position and held it the re.mainder of the race for an overall The 250cc Expert class was a carbon copy of the I25cc Experts. with Maby Mcintyre (Yam) getting th e holeshot the first moto and holding a commanding lead. The big battle was for second between Steve LaPointe (Yam). Shawn Perrero (Ya m), Ronn ie Jones .(Yam) .and BJII ~uttrell (Yam ) . LaPomte fimshed holdmg second with Perrero third. Mcintyre pulled the second moto holeshot and disappeared : and again the battle was on for second with LaPointe , Luttrell , Perrero , Jones and Kent Thornton (Yam ). Thornton took ove~ third and was pushing for second until a bad cra sh put him out for the r ema inder of th e r a ce . Again LaPointe held seco nd a nd Perrer o third.
