Riders must change every lap and no one is allowed to help th em in a ny way. Open Expert riders Ken Morgan and R . Vit ask i had th ei r act together a nd came up with th e overall win for a go od end ing to a fin e day. At five o'clock th e tired riders were on the ir way home, anxious for results and wantin g to know when the next Grand Prix is sched uled at Corona . SRC long-moto MX growing stronger By Terry W hytal ORANGE, CA , FEB . 26 If you 're tired of spending more tim e at races just sitting and wai ting than you do riding, try the new Saddleback Racing Club's approach . The first 500 cc Pro race pitted Husky rider Ron T eb bs aga inst th e Yamaha of Rich a rd T horwa ldson a nd Henry Schmidt (Ma i). After much dicing . T ebbs fin ishe d fi rst wit h Schm id t edging ou t Thorw a ldson. Moto two saw t he th ree mix in g it up aga in bu t th is time T horwaldson got th e checkers followed by T eb bs then Schmid t. T he ove rall went to T eb bs with Thorwaldson sec ond and Schmidt th ird . . Jim Gibson ran away with both 250cc Pro motos, leaving Yamaha riders Andy Kirker and Jim Domann to fight fo r second. Domann held off Kirker in both races , ca p turing second overall behind Gibson . Open Intermediate action was an all -Maico show, with the first three spo ts filled by th e German machines. Daniel McKinley took two firsts for th e overa ll victory. J im Bel tn ick a nd Marino Bastionell had quite a battle for secon d with each scoring a victory over the other. Bastionell went 3· 2 for second ove rall . leaving t hi rd t o Belmick. Monte Roy, riding a Suzuki, took the top honors in the 250cc Junior class, followed by William Ban ish (Suz) and Yamaha- m ou nt ed Blaine Jacklin . . SRC has run three races now and each time the weather ha s been nic er and th e track in better shape. W e' re looking for perfect conditions on March 12. See you therel Results in Results Section. The 250cc Pro s provided plenty of spectator actio n, with a top field of local com petito rs. Ga ry Sem ics, on a new Can -Am , Jim Gi bson, rid in g a Yam ah a . Mai co Mieste r 's Da ve W illiams a nd J eff Vidi c a ll went for it. The first moto saw Vidic grab th e lead , closely followed by Gibson and W illiams.
