Lance Moorewood 161. Mitch Musgrave IL71 and Rick Bland square off.at Racing World. Moorewood won the first 250cc Pro moto and Bland was second. Adams and Green vie for position in the AME 125cc Intermediate race at ยท Racing World. " 26 (Continued from page 23) the end of th e rac e slipped by Eropkin to finish second. When the 250cc boys lined up for the next race Eropkin had his carburetor doctored up and dodged his way by Bob Walker to tak e the front before the end of the lap. Moorewood found his way around Walker and pushed hard to catch Eropkin. Trying to make up for lost time, he powered on the straight near the first turn but accidentally dug his foot in the dirt, putting him out of the race. Eropkin finished first for the big win followed by Walker who placed overall third, and Bland with the second for the day. In the 125cc Pro race Mike Brown got the holeshot but Mike Johns aced him out on the first tour of the course. Johns kep t th e lead and w,?n the first rac e with second going to Brown . DG'sponsored Brown need ed a win in the second ra ce to take the overall and got it. He charged his Suzuki off the line , grabbed the holeshot, and made a home free run to the checkered flag . Johns , who got off second again , was trying to work his way by Brown when he had to swerve to avoid a collision and dropped his bike. Three other riders piled over him and a fourth flew off the track. When the mess was untangled Johns had to walk his bike awa y with a twisted frame , and a un identified rider went ou t with arm-injuries, Results in Resu lts Section . Heavy racing Las Vegas style with OTHGMX By Dev il Do n Fis her LAS VEGAS, NV . FEB. 19 The Expert class of the Over ~ Robert Reisinger leads Radical Ron Turner 1161 in the CMC 250cc Pro race. The Hill Gang race at Williams Raceway were not to be denied , with two of the four riders in that class ha ving new bikes and even a new $2.000 European monster made it's ra cing debut. As usual the Expert and Amateur classes took the first flag while the Intermediate and Novice class took the second. The Expert class was extremely hard fought . In the first moto, Juicy John Van Hoo ve (Ma i) got th e hol eshot followed by Phast Phil Koliske (Suz), Raunchy Ray Charlesworth (Suz) . Amateur C.O .D . Carl Walden (Hus) and all the rest of the Amateur class and yours truly. There is always at least one Amateu r among th e front runners for th e first lap or cwo anyway, if not more . C.O .D . Carl was that particu lar rider. After getting to the place where I could manage to pass, he decided to make a move on the rider in front of him. It all made for a good, even tful race in the first heat. I did, however, find the right combination to win the first hea t in the Exp ert class. In the Amateur class it was all C.O.D. Carl in the first heat that is. The combination of an excellent holeshot and hard, determined riding are hard to beat. If Dazzling Dave Brown could get a decent machine under him we all feel that he has the capability to really smoke . He won the Intermediate class in all three heats on an old Honda 125 . Meek Mike Tucker (Hus) won all three of his motos in the Novice bunch. Juicy John rocket-shipped to the first turn for the second moto holeshot , followed by all the Experts th is time (no Amateursl) , Raunchy Ray was next with Phast Phil followed by Devil Don. Ra y went past John after the third lap, while Devil Don was hav ing a dice with Phast Phil. It wasn't until the last three laps tha t I was able to ge t behind Raunchy Ra y and then the race was reall y on . I don 't think that enough can be said about wearing protective equipment, especially after following an Open bike for three laps on a somewhat rock -strewn motocross track. Even with a check protector, face mask, etc .. my fingers and toes caught hell . Raunchy Ray went on to win the second moto. . Nasty Norm Barron, the Amateur class winner on his 250cc Bultaco, is really quite a competitor . He left motocross for a period of three years to devote his time to racing dune buggies, where he made qu ite a name . for himself and just recently joined our club and we are extremely pleased to have him back. The reason I mention this about Mr. Barron is because in the third and final moto, he led the Expert class for three laps before he ran out of poop. Juicy John led Nasty Norm, Raunchy Ra y and Devil Don tor the first two laps until Norm caught and passed him. Then Ray and myself had to get around Juicy John in order to catch Norm. Bpy! it seems that the brother members just don't give up . After Ray and I caught Van Hoove we went after Norm. Nasty led us for the remainder of the lap, after we managed to get around him the race was between Raunchy Ray and Devil Don. With only two laps remaining I was able to shut the door on Ray to ' win the Expert class for the day . Smith smokes, WIlliams wins, Turner trIumphs at Saddleback By Patti Firth-Trotter ORANGE, CA, FEB. 19 Two weeks ago , ri ders were axle deep in mud.
