THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS By Elaine J on es CO RONA , CA, FEB. 4 Winning never seems to ge t bo ring for N orth H igh School, for they wh om p ed a ll coiners at Corona Raceway's high school motocross Saturday morning. The win column wasn 't d ominated by North bu t they seldom failed to have a rider in the top three a nd th ey ha ve the numbers to pl ace the ir riders where they can d o the most good. Even though every sc hoo l will compete aga inst everyone else, the onl y school North has to worry about is Norco sinc e they are th e only on es in their divisio n. Norco has been having t he sam e kin d of season as North so when the two power houses get togeth er it's going to be a dandy. Yvette Lyle of North had a perfect score to win the Women's Division . Kerri Meenan from Rim of the World finished second to Yvette the first moro but ended th e second rnoto with a DNF. Lisa Mazzacane of North looked to be the ga l to fill in the gap but she met wit h a strong cha lle nge from Kathy Campbell from Western. Kathy ha d a fifth in the firs t moto but put everything together in the final round and ca me up with a second . It was close bu t Lisa 's third in the second -moto ga ve he r a one point edge over Kathy. J im McIntosh of North took tu rns with Alan Skies of Upla nd winning the 125cc Novice class. . The first moto belonged to Skies from sta rt to fin ish with McIntosh second. The second moto looked to have Skies' name on it until the last lap when McIntosh took a cha nce and it paid off. The two riders were tied but McIntosh's second rnoto win gave him th e overall . Todd Hu egel of Alta Lorna was th ird. Skies d id get some reven ge against No rth as he came back to win th e 175cc Novice go and thi s time wha t possibly could hav e end ed in a tie d id n't ha ppen , Mark Montgomery of Colton led th e first mota until th e white flag lap when proble ms forced him ou t. Skies was there to pic k up th e m arbles. In t he second mo ta Mon tgomery was again out on top and this time no thin g stopped h im . Unfortunately, his DNF the first m oto kep t him out of the top three a nd th e only th ing he got for his outstanding pe rformance were team points. Skies picked u p the win with Steve Rounak and T ony T hompson of North second an d th ird. Wade Hodge of North hit two in a row to win the 175cc Senior class over team m ates Ji m Mcintosh and Mark jerret. Randy Buckner added the other North win as he top ped teammate Marc Madore and Da ve Gola of El Dorado in the Mini Novice race. Resul ts in Resul ts Section.
