Broc Glove r slid his silver-tank ed works bike to a CRC victory. Hannah shows how to ride like the Hurricane at CRCMX By Greg Barbacov i VALENCIA, CA , FEB . 11 16 Saturday motocross riders out at Indian Dunes got a big thrill ou t of a few of the Expert entries. California Racing Club (CRG) Promoter Jack Barbacovi was able to talk Yamaha factory wrench Ed Scheidler into bringing out a few of his "boys" to the track . Pierre Karsmakers, Bob Hannah, Mike Bell , Broc Glover and Rick Burgett all brought out the ir silver -ranked monoshockers and proceeded to put on quite a show for the spectators as well as their competition. H anna h , Karsmakers and Bu rgett all went for the 250cc class and figured to ta ke the to p three spots. Not so. Hann ah beat them all to th e first turn in the opening moto, but right behind him was J ohn Savitski , John was on a Yamaha too , and then surprised everyone further by holding onto second place for the opening four laps. Pierre finally slipped by him about 12 minutes into the race and finished a d istant second to the "H u rricane. " Rick Bu rgett had to pull off th e track once to talk about a bike problem with his wrench, yet pulled himself up at th e end to fin ish fourth. Hannah was on top of the pack at the start of the second moto too. He eventually won , but not without a fight. Burgett slipped right by Bob on the second la p to begin a real dogfight between the two. Their lap times a veraged I :4 2 on the extended International track: That's coo kin'l Meanwhile , Ka rsmakers and Savitski were making some tracks of th eir own , just a few bike lengths behind. Pierre mo ved int o second place abou t two thirds of the wa y through the race and assumed the lead with just six laps remaining. Burgett went down on the far end of the track, but got right back up in to fourth place to make another run at th e lead. Now it was Hannah's tu rn at Pierre. The Hurricane loo ked a little quicker on the top end and it showed two laps later when he passed Karsmakers for the last time. At the checkered flag, Savitski found himself in th ird for a third overall, and with a mad dash at the last second (resu lting in an endo over the finish linel) , Burgett finished fourth . Brae Glover was the only factory rider in the 125cc class, but don't tell Mark Lawrence that. The " Mad ma n" from Crown Cycle was in front of Glover in both motos for at least three laps _before the factory rider would finally begin to pull away. Mark did his best to keep up with Broc's to rrid pa ce , but you can't expect to keep u p with fa ctory equipment for long. Mark fell once in each moto , yet managed to fin ish second behind Glove r. Mik e Bell wa s turning in th e qu ickest la p times of any of th e Pros, running a t an average of I :lIg per la p. He reall y didn't have too m uch to co~ pete within the Open class. Goa t Breker finished behind him in each rnoto, yet was never really in the race, finishing as much as 1I0 seconds behind the leader. Eddie Cole brought his Can -Am in third overall by placing behind Goat in each race. The Yamaha team attracted quite a few Intermediates as well. Pedro Raymundo , who was riding his first race in Ameri ca since moving here from Bra zil, swept all II 125cc Intermediates, finishing almost a lap ahead of the entire field in the first rnoto, and passing every rider at least once in th e second moto in an exciting come -from -behind upset. Chris Alberts grand -slammed the O pe n class , and Donald Draskovich piloted his Can -Am to an impressive win in the 250cc class. Results in Resu lts Section . CRC'smuddy moto melee at Racins World By Keit h Cle mons TRABUCO CYN.. CA , FE B. 12 A full week of pounding rain turned Racing World's track into mud city and California Racing Club (CRe) racers found that plowing through was often as hard as dragging a spoon through a bowl of pasty refried beans. Steven Potts, leaning hard on the gas, dug a line for the rest of the Pros in the 125cc class . In the first moto he and his muddy Suzuki found the checkered flag without ground loss, but Andy Northrop stole the victory the second time around. Northrop received a slu dge-b a th from Potts' sp inning wheels through mos t of the second moto as he followed close and tried without success to pass . Finally, he found an insid e track and used it to gun ahead and grab the lead. Holding the position and goi ng all the way gave him first overa ll for the day and a chance to give back some. of that mud he had borrowed
