Conditions were a bit moist. In fact , you could even say muddy. The race was billed as a Pro race and a lot of them showed. It rained throughout the event , but there was plenty of action as names like Mike McCormick. Tim Michletsch, Rowdy Blasdell. Rick Burgett. Dave Eakin and Steve Pless were primed and ready. The track was in great shape considering the weather and George Howland brought them all off the line on tim e. The schedule ran like a Swiss watch . The 125cc Pro class ran first with Mike McCormick (Yam) serving notice that he was very serious about the event. Into the first corner he ran third behind Steve Pless (Yam) and Tim Mich letsch (Hus) . Before the moto was over, he had made his move up to a second place finish. Steve Pless took advantage of his good start to take the win . The second moto saw McCormick blast off the line and grab the holeshot. He railed the race for the second moro win, givi ng hi m the overall. Steve Pless ha d to figh t Tim Mich letsch and wound up in third for second overall while Michletsch scored a third overall. The 250cc Pros had themselves two tight competitive motos. The first saw Rowdy Blasdell (Yam) rocket off the line and slip into the lead ahead of Steve Pless (Yam). Mike Phillips (Suz) settled for a close third as Dave Eakin (H on) and Mark Hambleton (Suz) had a good dice for the fourth and fifth . It ended in that order. The second moto was flat ou t. Mike Phillips got a much better start and shot into the front of the crowd. Mark Hambleton tucked into his slipstream and finished second. Rowdy Blasd ell overshot a turn and lost positions, but still posted a second overall. Phillips got the win and Steve Pless picked up third. In the Open Pros . the screarnin' yeller Yammer of Rick Burgett shot wide through the first turn letting two bikes slip in front. Burgett cranked it over the next jump and landed in the lead . It stayed that way with Ri ck holding an 18 second lead by rnotos end. Steve Pless (Yam) was the second rider. Dave Eakin (Suz) held third while Mike Hickman (Yam) rod e a solid fourth. Eakin had true inspiration in the secon d moto . He wanted to beat Bu rge tt . so he rode like a man possessed off the line and set himself up for a run to the flag . Bu rgett knew he had to get a second place to win the overall . so that 's how he rode . It worked and Burgett took the overall with Dave Eakin second. Steve Pless third and Mike Hickman fourth. •
