Donnie Hansen and Tad Gumbmann brought in the top five placers. r-------------- ----- -------------------------------- ------- ----------- --- ------ ---------------. 500cc Pro Kawasaki took control of both 500cc class qualifiers until Steve Stackable got off in a rough new section designed for the series event. J im my Weinert took the first qualifier from the second lap to the wire. Rex Staten smoothly worked his way up into second late in the 10-lap run with Darrell Shultz bringing his Maico in third . Scott Gillman and Kenny Zahrt were right behind Stackable in the second qualifier to pick up the one-two spots ahead of the factory Kawasaki . Scott Millerand Bob Myers were the top two in the consolation. A heavily contested final saw a field of flying colors come off the start hill with Steve Stackable grabbing the lea d . Darrell Shultz picked his way into a close second by the end of the first lap with Rex Staten on his tail. As Staten made his bid for second on the third lap , Shultz went into a crossedup flying W that dropped him back into fifth . Kenny Zahrt joined the parade of speedsters up front. As he caught sight of the leaders , Staten flew by Stackable for the lead. Back in the pack, Weinert was having his problems with traffic after a bad start, and on the last lap put both Bob Marino and Goat Breker behind. At the flag the bucks went to Staten, Stackable, Zahrt, Shultz and Weinert. The series goes into its second week in Fresno at Mountain High International, where another $5 ,000, conti ngencies a nd points towards the Suzuki fund m oney are up for grabs.
