._--------------------------------------" LORAIN . OHIO. SACRAMENTO. CA.. AMARILLO. TX . . -------------------------------Mike Montgomery steps to the front of the pack during an Elsinore TT race. laying ' in fourth . It took Rainey two more laps to get by Summers and the same time he was making his move . Volk had gotten under Grigsby to take over first. The seventh lap saw Rainey outpower Grigsby out of tum four and move to second. The battle was on as Volk , Rainey. Grigsby and Summers all hit 'turn four at the same time with Summers coming down extremely low and almost losing it as he got int o the rough stuff. All four riders came out of the tum practically running dead even but it was Rainey who turned the wick up and got the lead with Volk second. Grigsby third and Summers fourth. One more lap around the park didn't change the order of th ings . Rainey, when the half mile was split decided to jump in to the 250cc division , too and the pressure was 't nearly-as great as he led it wire to wire . Don Tortorelli was second for four laps before he started coming high out of four and played tag with the wall . Pete Hames com ing from fifth was there to slip underneath him and nailed down second while Tortorelli had to be content with third. Rainey sewed up the Money short track never giving up the lead from start to finish . Tortorelli again came off in the second place slot followed by Charlie Summers and Don Grigsby. Tortorelli ran into problems ,on the third lap which dropped him out of contention and moved Summers and Fortune into the two .. three spots. From there on out everyone held position and followed Rainey home. Don Grigsby, didn't go home empty handed , winning the Money TT. Charlie Summers blasted off the line in first with Steve Fortune in second and Grigsby in third. It took "T Bone" three laps to catch Summers, who was really hungry and cookin'. It was a drag race down the front side with Grigsby getting enough' of an edge to take over first . Fortune's bike started going sour on the seventh lap and even though h~ nursed it he had to give it up on the next lap. Joe Steffen moved into third and got lucky on the white flag lap when Summers went down. At the checkered it was Grigsby, Steffen and Shawn Leipold. Rich . Volk had the Open Amateur/Expert in his hip pocket as he went wire to wire. Dylan Neihart ,was off in second but one lap later was out of it with a blown rod . Robert Butt moved into second , and held it for three before his engine went sour and Jerry Peters moved to second. Peters' hold on second was short-lived when he went down and Pat Dobbins was " there to take it over . Dobbins broke the jinx and collected the second with ' Peters third . Pete Hames lost a heartbreaker in the 250cc Expert half mile. Hames led the race from the start and on the fifth lap he highsided between the first and Second turns which left the door wide open for Chris Cannon to take over the lead and the win with Todd Brown , second and Terry Singleton third. Dylan Neihart had his name all over the 250cc Amateur/Expert TT as the young Fontana rider rode a smart race that gave him the win. Mark Butler got off in second but Mike Hale made short work of him and he seemed to have second locked up until Ben Meyer put a move on him in the last lap that dropped him to third. Todd Brown, the oval specialist. proved it as he sailed to victory in the 250cc Expert short track . Terry Singleton , .a boa rd liis Gary Jones· sponsored Ammex , gave him a run for his money but couldn't catch the Ontario ace . Craig Martin rounded out the field with third. Bobby Garabedian completely dominated the 125ec Experts rid ing three and winning three. Ross Klatt and Rob Ely were two , three on the short track and reversed the order on the half mile while Jake Billings and , Klatt shared the bridesmaid honors on theTT. . ) Results in Results Section .
