Central concern Sun's stocker I would like to poi nt out an error in recent Cycle News ' Ya maha's advertisement regarding the Anaheim Supercross race . They state that, aside from Bob Hannah, .. . . . nine of the top 10 finishers were astride hand-built , no-other-bike-like-it. works machines." RANDY SCHWALENBERG Santa Barbara, CA riders come to Amateur events , blatantly break the rules and then are defended in a publication like Cycle News' District ~6 has a set of ru les that a pply to every rider of sa nct io ned events within the District , no matter who they are. The rule book 'sta tes, "Participants in Cross Country events may not ride the course within 48 hours of . the time they are due to start." At the November I ~ Wilseyville hare scrambles R ick Hocking was caught riding the course Saturday, 24 hours before the event. During the event Hocking was observed by club spotters cutting the course on three separate occasions, On the third instance. Mr. Hocking cut approximately one-quarter mile off the course by the gas pits. At this point , 1 had already disqualified him but was deluged by incensed spectators. riders , pit crews and club members to take action against this rider before he hurt someone. , I personally feel that any rider who knowingly breaks the rules of our sport does himself and all of us a great injury. But possibly a greater injury is inflicted when Mr. W,H . Spencer, an official of the district in which' the events are run casts the rule book aside and defends the wrong doer in a Cycle News race report.
