There were more than 30 pie platers in the Beginner class alone: you clubs better start recruiting. McCracken had taken the lead before check two but couldn't open up any sizeable lead on Bruce Felker. Bill Mossman and Brian Charters were moving up to the front fast ; Don Boese and Marty Pollard were doing the same. Out of the big wash and onto the cupped out road , the racers crossed under the big power lines , the. brave ones got it on and headed for the Stoddard Mountains. . Cliff Ograin approached the rocky uphill just in time to find seven riders sruck .therev Boondockin' through the watermelon boulders to the left of the trail, the Honda thumper was on its way with Cliff running first in class. Dan Drew and Tim Eckart had a race going as they rounded the mountain and headed for check four. Trace . Willis moved up on , C biker . Brian Burski, Mike Havens was glad 250 rider Dennis Lovell was in front of Duane Summers because Summers, Havens and Willis are all trailbikers. Heading for check five , Mark Day had Dennis Smith and Matt Bishop in his dust. Emmon Brown and Gene Monpar were next. McCracken , Felker, Mossman and Charters almost centerpunched 't h e home check banners. Drew did . As the racers pitted and headed out on loop two , they were already wishing it was over. Roeseler stated at the finish that this was the tiredest his arms had been all year. Soon a white plate shot down pit row and Ron Blake chalked up the overall Beginner win. Rich Parcells was the first District 250 , . Brian Burski, first C , Jeff Moller first trail, Cliff Ograin first Senior, and Mike Faris first Senior Trail. When the racers entered the wide wash past check two , Brian Charters had his "Macho Maico" at fourth overall. first 250 , his "tailmate" Don Boese was third Open. When they reached the rocky uphill, Marty .Pollard was running second 250, Tim Eckart third . Dan Drew was sandwiched between Pollard and Eckart. Taking off from check four through the neat deserty canyons , Pat Kratoval and Lee Midgley were fighting over the fifth 250 spot , Jack Morin and Adrian Ahero were just ahead doing the same th ing.
