Tom Kortepeter was rid ing a Husky and was very proud of his new digatronic claculator. It took him over the 89 -mile course with the perfect score of 0-3 0 . Although Tom gav e most of the credit to h is calculator, roll chart and speedo , his talent and skill for enduro rid ing was quite evident . Second place was shared by Steve Wiggman and Randall ' Langley who each lost five seconds. SRA's number one point holder in the open class , John Schultz was third . losing seven seconds. Eric and Pam Lehmann. both Husky riders, were the first Husband and Wife team for two loops. Pam's biggest thrill was show also trophied due to her own time keeping, and beat SRA's num ber one woman enduro rider - Nancy Bau m . Eric had lost only th ree seconds until he b urnt the last check. causing-him to lose two points. T he surprise check that caught many riders off guard was Check G. This check was located two miles from the dry lake where a gas stop had just been made. A check can never be with in three miles of each other and some forgot the gas sto p was not a check . Unfortunately. some li m e an d ribbon were removed or covered when other even ts criss-crossed SRA's course but things were taken care of and everyone was accounted for - at th e finish. Results were pos ted before the trophy presentation at the She-Boat Hotel and winners included Mik e Goodwin , First 200 A , Cordles. First parent/child for one loop and David and Neil Keith claimed parent/ child for two loops. The two -man team was won by Huble and Schulz while threeman team went to Coventry. Lisardi and Lyon . The following morning brought a mini motocross race, and they Korfepeter wins Gamblers Paradise Enduro By Sue Senn LAS VEGAS, NV , N OV. 26 The Gam blers Paradise End uro produced two perfect scores of 0-30, one for eac h loop . T he first loop started fr om Californ ia / 18 Nevada State line at 7 :00 a .m , Saturday and the wea ther was cold. As the riders cut across the dry lake and into the rocks, the te mperature began to climb a bit. Things really warmed up when the course turned into deep sa nd . Even though this was a ve ry challenging loop, Ea st W est M .C . rider, Ron Smith, who is 14 yea rs old and rid es a 125 Mono , checked in at every check on time. His score was 030 while his friend Scott Powers was second with a 0-33 . Third place went to Nancy Rasmussen who was off five seco nds wit h a 0 -35. The second loop co uld have been called "Ye Olde Flat Tire Enduro" as this problem seemed to plague many . 'Big AI' Criner who had led Smith and Powers for their score over loop one, was among those who rode mo st of the second loop on a rear flat while other s were spotted with either th e front or both tires flat. Ma rio D'Amico seemed were all there to che ck out th e premises. Mini Beginners action went to Suzuki -mounted Frank Brundage from Ramona. Frank , a nine-year-old , captured all three motos and ea rned a No vice ranking on his motocross bike . Paul Smith, also aboard a Suzuki was the victor of the Mini Novice class by taking three wins in his class. The final mini race was the Amateur/Expert class . SCOlt Burnworth, also part of the Suzuki team, bu rned the track up for all he was worth and took the race piston, head and barrel. Bru ce Winham , the Amateur that got beat by Dorothy R owe , was back to get reve nge . Amateur' Ba rry O'Brien ha d the lea d for two laps of t he 250 cc Amateu r/Expert race unt il Dorothy slowly but surely p icked off the riders and got Ba rry on th e swee per. Windham pu lled the holeshot in moto two and from then on it was checkered flags all the way for him . Dorothy had a terrible night. She had so many get-off's that she was laying on the track more the n she was racing on it . She got a taste of her own Desert ace Larry Roeseler proved to the DeAnza folks that he knows his way around a motocross course. rn medicine as Windham kept her to second. Barry O 'Brien was third . In the last and most important moto Bruce went for broke and let loose on his Suzuki. He held Dorothy to another second. Windham picked up his first place trophy and then his ego that heleft th ere two weeks ago. Gary J oneS (Ammex) and Da vid Hopkins (H us) had a hard time just keeping him iii sight. In the first moto, Roeseler shot out off the line and was soon int o solid lead over Hopkins , Ron Teblls (H us) and Jones. On the fourth la p l Jones moved past Tebbs, placing th former National Champ in third. As the race continued, little changed besides the size of Roeserler's lead. The Husky pilot cruised past th e checkered flag with a comfortable distance over Hopkins.. JiG At the start of moto two , botli Ro eseler and J on es were buried in th~ pack while Hopkins led the parade. Roeseler was on the gas , and in I than four laps , he put his Husky in second. It wasn't long before he was back on top . Jones , also cu tting through the pack rapidl y, was right on Hopkins' tail by lap seven. The two battled for second right down to th wire. On the last lap Jones made his move . In the overall the top five were Roeseler, Jones, Hopkins , Tebbs , and Randy Rodriquez (Mai).
