Street is Neat · My confidence in the street rider has been carried out to its fullest. Since I have only received two letters about this here column, and since both of them are from street riders who didn't know there was a Biker newsmagazine, it only goes to confirm that dirt bikers can't read . Since dirt bike riding is a sport for the infirm of mind anyway, this was to be pected. . Well , so much for the berm bouncers and the dirt clod eaters. Let's ' get down to the nitty gritty. Out on the treet, where fine young women roam and the riding is smooth. This is just a ;sam pling of what you would already know if you read Biker. The last vestage of sa nity held by 'Evel Knieve l must have been drained in his last accident. O n the day befor e he was to re port to the can for inca rce ra tio n , he o pe ned h is oral cavity and exclai me d that he was go ing to jump ou t of a bo m be r at ~O,OOO feet , without a pa rac hute , and land in a pile of hay . This is the same m a n that was used by the Department of Transportation as an example of what all upright bikers should be like , when we were fighting the mandatory helmet laws in .W ashingt on . He was for the lid law , by the way. Figures, doesn't it? Anybody with his outlook on life should be forced to wear a skid lid. Iron undies, too. Almost 100 Pennsylvania Iicens ,-ng examiners got a taste of what motorcycles are really like when they were taken for a ride (not like the rGodfa ther type ride) on motorcycles. ,H ow about that? They have been 'l icensing bikers and saying whether or not they were good enough to ride , but they didn't even know how to ride themselves. . Did you know that Kawasaki is the biggest company of all the motorcycle manufacturers? Well then , how about I this: Honda didn't even incorporate in the United States until 1967 . If you think that's weird, how ab out Harley? :ji' hey went in business in 1903 and , t~~~'.t ~: ~~~e~~~:c~;!:r;':;t~~~~ '< yea rs, huh? . Now that the cold season is here a lot of bikers are storing their bikes until the sun comes out. A couple of hints while storing your bike. Take out the plugs and squirt a little WD·40 , jnto the cylinders . Disconnect your battery. Put the bike up on blocks and let some of the a ir out of the tires. Not all of it , just tak e 'e m down to about 10 pounds of pressure. That way th ey e won't come off the rim , but they will last longer also . If you are going to be storing your bik e for over a year, drain the gas out of th e float bowls and the gas tank. Less than a yea r you should fill the tank to the top , so water won 't ° condense in the tank. { There ar e some other little tips , but cr m not going to tell you what they are . If you' re a street biker you can find out £ in Biker, and if you 're a dirt bike ' ~rider , well , like they said in the " m ovies, "Frankly Scarlett, I don't give bll d am n ."
