Lakewood, CA recently had to pass an ordinance against powered pedal-cycles motocrossing in their city parks after a 9-year-old girl was injured by an out of control Mobylette. ") printed in Voices recently was not directed at the Cycle News coverage of the Oct . 28 Ascot speedway races . Instead , it was a copy of a telegram sent by the board to the AMA. They blew it , said Benck, not us. Whewl CES Promotion's Charles Schafer is putting together a four race series to guarantee a certain number of start positions for the Dirt Diggers North Hangtown Classic sportsman MX. The four races, to be held Dec. 18, Jan. 8, Jan. 22, and Feb. 12. 1978 will all be run at Plymouth Raceway, the Hangtown site. Contact Schafer at (2091267-0312 after 6 p.m. Contrary to what was thought at the conclusion of the Nov. 13 CMC race at Carlsbad, CA , Mike Bell did not win the number one plate in the 250 class. That award went to Tim Lunde. The. points totals which showed Bell leading in points coming into the race were later found to be in error. Bell , however, was assured by CMC officials before the event that he d id have the lead, so he went ahead and rac ed two motos with a broken wrist suffered th e previou s night a t Anah eim and finished fifth . Lunde finished ' third and won th e championship by 10 points, a bitter blow to Bell , who raced in so much pain that tears filled his goggles at the end of the second moto, Sears Point Trans-AMA winner Brad Lackey was in the car that Jimmy Weinter rolled Sunday, Nov. 13. Weinert got a slight fracture of a neck bone and showed up with a neck brace to help announce the Sears , Point race. Lackey only got a bruised leg. Reportedly, they were out hillclimbing the car on Brad's Pinole, CA ranch. CMC announced the dates for their $21,000 Golden State MX series. Each of seven 'races carries a $3 ,000 purse for pros in the 125, 250, and Open classes. It starts at Saddleback Park Jan . .8 , then to Fresno Jan. 15, Sears Point Jan. 22 and back to So Cal Jan 29 .
