Triumph: Legend updated for -19 78 1978 T riumphs combine modem refinements with the classic lines, fine handling chara cteristics and robust engineering tha t have been . synonymous with Triumph for nearly half a centu ry. .The two newest models - the dual carb u retor 1978 Bon ne ville and its ~onomical single-carburetor sibling, the 1978 Tiger - are bo th built around Triumph's lean and efficient 7W cc OHV vertical twin engine. It 's th e same basic engine that has powered Triumphs to victory for over 40 years . The engi ne rides in the narrowest 750 fr a mes m ade. Light weigh t and na r ro wness combi ne with a seat positioned only 32 inc hes off the ground to give the 1978 T rium p hs a -~ feel" a union be tween cycle a nd rider - that motorcycle enthusiasts reco gnize as being u niq uely T rium p h . Both models come eq ui pped with Lockheed hydra ul ic double-action disc brakes front and rear for positive braking and double-action front forks for a smooth ride. New for 1978 are Gir ling gas shocks in the rear. Also new is a striking choice of colors. The Bonneville is available in black with a red flash, blue with a silver flash or chocolate and gold. The T iger comes in red with a silver flash . Hand-painted pinstriping and extra chrome accents set off the classic styling. • (I) ..0 8 (I) ;> o Z Brad Lackey's GP teammate, Graham Noyce By Chris Myers Bri ti sh Motoc ro ss Champio n Graham N oyce recently signed a one-year contrac t with Honda Britain to ride the 500cc grand prix next year as Brad Lackey's teammate . T he contract will reportedly net t he 20 -year -old Englishman some $75 ,000 - biggest ever for a British motocrosser, Noyce won two British Championships on Maicos. Now he will always have two RC 500s at his disposal and has onl y to show up at the tracks and ride . Noyce is qui te pleased with the new contract. " I have seen how fa st Brad has bee n th is year," he sa id , "a nd 1 ha ve a lso seen how H onda h as cont inued to develop th e bike. 1 shall be happy in the Honda team. " Ho nd a Br it ain Team Ma nage r Ger ald Davison explai ned that La ckey and Noyce would be equal team mates. There wou ld be no question of num ber one and nu mber two riders , he said. Honda sees the two-man team as a sure fire bet for a world title in 1978 . Noyce has declared that un like th is yea r when he rode every weekend and occasionally during the week as well. for nex t yea r he will take th ings a little easie r .
