As for m yself , I began r acing m oto rcycles in the Los Angeles area in 1936 , competing m ostl y in scrambles, but also riding several Elsinore GPs and Ho petown GP , I was a charter member of th e original Lightweigh ts M, C . , feat uring such ou tstanding me mbers as "Mad" Mike R ad ner , Kei th Mas hburn , Ga ry Scott , Ca rl On Oc tober 30, 1977 I atten ded The Richard All red Memorial R ace at Argylle Pa rk in Dixon, Calif. The race was prom oted by Boss MX. C. M .C . Lately I h a ve b ecom e very disa p poin ted in the organization of the races . A number of t hi ngs have rea lly got ten ou t of h and. I'm usin g th e Oct. 30th ra ce , in pa rticu la r, as one example , During the 25 0 ExpertIntermedi a te race , it h ad just started , there was a wreck in the firs t tum of the first la p ; a rider was injured and im m obil e . The rider had to b e taken off the tra ck by ambulance afte r 15 la ps of the race. riders goi ng ~t a normal "Ex pe rt· Intermedia te" speed . No cau tion was yielde d even though th e yellow fla g was waving in clear view of the riders. I was surprised that th e riders did not yield to the ca ution sign al and the p romoter did not hing to ins ure the safety of the injured rider or the First Aid pe rsons who wer e trying to administer aid to the inj ured rider. , T he peo ple that were trying to aid the rider and protect him from an y fu rther inj uries were hit by the riders as the injured rider was on th e "ho t lin e" and the riders show ed little or no ca ution . How can these riders and promote rs get away without being penalized ? T he re was no excuse for this . I feel the race shou ld have been stopped due to the lack of caution the riders were showing. It got ridiculous whe n the promoter tried to flag riders to yield to the ca ution flag a nd he was almost hit by riders and h ad to j ump out of the way of the racers.
