'ooccccccooocoooocccccccccoccocccoocooooooooooccoooccoooc Ce....aI PlpeliDe MXing into Winter By Nick Castillo MCALLEN , TX , OCT. 23 McAllen Motorcycle Club held their second fall season motocross . This track and Lakeside of Alamo are the only tracks running in south Texas. The club plans to keep on running all through winter . as long as they can. Parents of all the kids that are racing are getting involved in motocross and helping out any way they can. This is a big help to the club since there are only five active members. October's race was a sloppy one. Saturday was a beautiful south Texas fall day, but when night fell, so did the rain - two full inchesl Sunday started wit h the 250 -0pen Juniors. Jimmy Sandvig (Yam) p lowed through the mud the first moto with Tony Redding (Bul) wet on his heels. On the second moto the thing turned around as Redding tried to hold off Sandvig's charge, but had to settle for second after sliding down on a tight corner. Third went to Gary Newton (Suz) after a hard battle with Hector Bautista (Suz), who came in fourth . Next to the lin e ca me t he 125 Intermediates. Oscar Quintan illa (Suz) won overall . Mik e McDaniels (H on) DNFed the second moto after winning the first moto and leading most of the second. That was tough luck. Sonny Ma rkham (Suz) came in second, Alex H inojosa (Su z) third and Britt Turkington (Yam) fourth . The 125 Juniors were next in line , with Charles Startz (Hon) taking a hard -earned win over Rodney Womack (H on) after a hot battle between these two from start to finish. Third went to Troy Beam (Suz) wi til Tim Redding (Yam) rounding out fourth. . An Enduro class was added to the program. Walter Bode (Yam) from San Benito , TX took first, with Buddy Neal (Hon) hanging on his rear knobby for second. Keith Fox (Hon) got third in his first race, and David Fair (Hon) rounded out the Honda freight train for fourth . O u r Mini class was small with all our mini riders already outgrowing this class and moving up . Jackie Horner (Suz) mopped up the minis in style, with Roger Full er (Hon) second and Robbie Abbott (Ya m) third. The Super Min i class was the come back for Jamie Killion , who was putting on a great show until the second moto, when his bike decided to call it quits. It was good to see Killion ride again and we wish h im better luck next time. Aft er Jamie's DNF first pla ce went 10 Russell Ga ge (Suz). second to full throttle Floyd Robbins (Suz). Third was Nerio Ramos (H on) and fourth Joel Stone (Yam) . • Jimmy Capt (H on) pulled off first overall in the 100 class , after Jackie Matthews (Suz) , who won the first moto, came in second the last moto for second overall. a The Expert class had a new visitor from Ca lifornia . Randy Alvarado (Suz) made a spectacular entrance with a big endo in the first corner. got up to finish second. Jeff Gage (Suz) motored around for an eas y win after Randy's endo , and Ruben Ramos (Ya m) twisted h is knee in th e second rnoto a nd DNFed . Our next race is No v. 27th . Results in Results Section . Logston sweeps second EI Paso . race In a row By E. W right EL PASO , TX , OCT. 30 For the second race in a row at Star Track Motocross Park, Scott Logston won every pro class overall, winning five out of six motos. In th e first rnoro of th e Open Pro , Logston (Yam ) took the holeshot with Maby McIntyre (Ya m) a close second. On the second lap , Mac took a trip over the bars but was up and going before Steve LaPointe (Suz ) could get b y. Logston took the win with LaPointe se co nd after Mac broke down . Marco Martin (Ma i) was third. McIntyre led Logston and LaPointe the second moto but Logston got by o n the second lap and started moving out. Mac hung on to second ahead of La Pointe. 125 Pros had a restart afte r a first turn pil eup in th e first race . One rider was sent 10 the hospital and Logston was checked for a possibl e neck reinjury. Logst on sa id he was OK and proved it by taking th e lead on th e restart and going on to win by a big m argin . Steve LaPoint e r an second until a cras h p ut h im out of a ction. Dea n Ulve (Yam) too k over seco nd with Maby (Ya m ) workin g u p from a bad sta rt to fin ish third. Second moto saw Mitch Moorhead (Ya m ) grab th e holesh ot , but Logst on and McIntyre both got by on th e first la p . Logston went on to win wit h McIntyre second and Dean Ulve th ird . In th e 250 Pr os Logst on go t th e holeshot with McIntyre right behind. The announcer had n icknamed Logston the " N ew Mexico Road Runner" and Mcint yre " W iley Coyote. " since Mcintyr e is always chasing Logston . The two rode a close race until Maby crashed. Logston won with a big margin over Shaun Perrero (Yam) and Lloyd Olson (Pen). In the second moto Logston took the holeshot but in the second turn McIntyre pushed Logston off the track 10 take the lead. Mac went on to win with Logston barely taking second ahead of Perrero , who put on a hard charge on the last lap and survived a crash near the finish . Star Track is ru n ni ng a yea rly point series to determine the top riders in each class . Logston was leading all three pro classes until he went to the Nationals and missed some races due to inju ries. With two races 10 go in the ser ies, Logston has th e 125 and Open sewed up and McIntyre has a slight lead over Logston in the 250. In the 250 Amateur. Ma ico riders Wa yne Suggs and Sam Hancock traded rnoto wins with Suggs getting the overall from t he sec ond moto . Robert Martin (Ya m) rode a good ra ce to win th e 125 Am at eu r . Ma rt in ca me from behind to take second behind Mike Vergara (Pen) in th e first moto , then took th e holeshot in the second and ran away with th e rnot o . Vergara was second and st eady-riding Mik e Hanlon (Suz) was third. Two Amateurs mo ved up to the pros today , Robert Sellman in th e 250 and John Patzkowski in the 125 class . Neither pla ced in the money, but both rode fin e ra ces for th eir first pro try.
