Marland Whaley and his Honda RTL-300 factory trials bike ran off with this year's U.S. National Trials Championship-making it their third National titlein a row. Late in the 1976 season, Marland came on like gangbusters to sweep the last three events and capture the National Trials Championship. This year, Marland sat out the first round of the series (the rules state that a rider must sit out one round) and then scored eight consecutive National wins. That's a total of eleven straight wins for the Honda and Honda's Mr. Clean - Marland Whaley. For Marland, riding trials on a Honda appears almost as easy as walking, as witnessed by his incredible performances. Taking advantage of the fact that the Honda is the only four-stroke trialer in the game, he uses its smooth tractability and power to the fullest. Honda engineering and Whaley's ability have teamed up to make Honda, Marland Whaley and the sport of trials almost synonymous. Just as in the sport of motocross, the names Honda and Marty Smith are synonymous. ' With the Trials season now over, enthusiasts can look to the Trans-AMA motocross series for further Honda excitement. As well as the Supercross Finals at Anaheim Stadium where Marty Smith and Honda will be on hand to defend their record and try to make it two Anaheim Stadium wmsmarow.
