OCT. 9 Las Cruces Motocross Park hosted its monthly motocross races with a $400 purse for experts . nice trophies for amateurs and lots of mud for everyone. It rained all week and Sunday morning. leaving a very challenging track that took its toll on everyone. In the first 125 Expert moto , Mitch Moorhead (Yam) sho t in to the lead . followed by Joel Craig (Yam) and Rick Beaman (Yam) . Moorhead opened up a big lead right awa y. but on th e second lap . Scott Logston (Ya m) pulled up next to him and began a challenge before his bike stopped and he was ou t . Rick Beaman took over second with Eddie Weard~ (Yam) third . That's the way the y finished , with Joel Craig fourth . The mud a nd deep sand was almost too much for 125's as only fou r bikes finished both mo tos . J oel Cra ig came from last to win th e second mo to with Moorhead second and Wearden third . In the 250 Experts. Dennis Patton pushed h is fast Penton into the lea d . Scott Logston (Yam) took over in half a lap and started moving out, Logston won by SO seconds over Gary W ilson (Pen) and Maby McIntyre (Yam). who was disqualified for cutting the track . This moved Randy Stahmann (Mai) into legal third place . In the second moto , Patton pulled a no ther holeshot with Logston and Wilson righ t behind. Logston was in the lead by the first lap with Wil son taking over second on the second lap. Wils on stayed with Logston half the rnoto before Logston started pull ing awa y. opening u p a 20'secon d lead a t the fin ish . Randy Stahmann m oved from sixt h at the start to th ird by th e end of the 25 m inutes. Open Expert action saw "Flying" Ryan Arm itage pull the holeshot on h is brand new 450 Ma ico over El Paso's Pete Tan ner (Suz) an d Scott Lo gs to n (Ya m ) . Logston passed Armitage a nd T anner in the same turn on the fi rst la p and st arted .cooking. Logston went on to .... writh rin a 40 second margin over Arm itage, who stalled his engine on the first lap and rode a good race to reco ver second ahead of James Fastle (Pen) who took third when Tanner dropped out. The sun came ou t for the last moto of the day - the second Open Expert moto. Armitage went do wn in the second turn and Logston was buried in traffic. Pete Tanner started moving ou t , but before the end of the first lap Logston had taken over the lead. On the second lap Fast le moved into second . close enough to challenge Logston with Tanner third . But Logston. showing a lm ost no signs of fati gue. started to pull away to fin ish with a comfor table margin over Fastle.
