Hannah , long gone , scored his second moto victory while the struggle for secon d place continued. With two laps remaining . Burgett crossed the finish line with Pomeroy. Smith . Tripes and Croft .a nxious to improve their positions. in the final moments. When Burgett slipped out under Pomeroy's pressure, Jim took second and held it for theremainder. Smith held third , bout Tommy Croft found a way around Marty Tripes. and the four finished in rapid succession: Pomeroy/Smith/Croft/Tripes. Bu rgett limped in with a broken fender and almost-out -of-gas cycle for sixth . Malherbe had overtaken DeCoster for seventh; Lackey and Gaylon Mosier . whose fuel tank vent " tube had clogged with mud causing him to DNF round one, completed the top 10. Hannah's overall win with two moto victories added 50 points to his series point standings and closed the gap on the leader, Roger DeCo ster , from a former 51 points .to eight. He overtook Marty Smith's second place in the series when Marty's 55 -point daily total dropped him to fourth. Ji m Pomeroy also stepped up one position in the deal and now holds third , seven points behind Hannah. Name " I didn't think I'd ever do itt" a • wea ry but jubilant Husky rider Chuck .Sun grinned through a thick mud mask at the end of the second 250cc moto. "But 1 didn't want to get second again," he added, referring to last week's race at Unadilla where his st r ong est contender Mark Barnett had won 2-1 over Sun's 1-2 score. Sun had taken an immediate lead in the opening moto , and alt h ough Barnett's Moto-X Fox Suzuki kept the pressure on in the early going. Sun had won by a 20 -second margin . Round two , however , was an entirely different story. Kenny Zahrt had taken th e lead on his Bultaco with Sun pushing to pass , but the two collided on the second lap dumping Sun to fifth and ' Zahrt even farther back. Sun began a 'rush back toward th e front , passing Denny Swartz, then overtaking John Savi tski . and . Terry Clark with five minutes to go . He caught Mickey Kessler at the end of the 50 -minute moto as the two -lap-togo sign came out and then set his sights on Barnett. The entire crowd ran from fence to fence following one of the closest fights of the afternoon. "We hit side by side and stalled in this rut!" Sun said of a last lap tangle between the battling leaders. "I was in front of him in the rut and held him back until 1 got my bike restarted." At the finish line, it was Sun shadowed by Barnett. • Unofficial Results 500cc INTERNATIONAL: 1. Bob Hannah , I -I (Yaml. 2. Jim Pomeroy, 2-2 (Hon). J . Tommy Croft. 44 (Hon). 4.
